Hands down, top 10 greatest film I have ever seen. I'm surprised there isn't a thread about it yet..
"Watchmen" is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity... but who is watching the Watchmen?"
If you haven't seen this film, see it and see it NOW.
I saw it and barely understood anything
Epic epic epic film.
It's a shame they changed the ending.
And the comic's better.
I agree that this was a good movie, but the comic was somewhat better, which is expected.

It was pretty the same for me in the beggining, but then i got a hang of it. That [sp]explosion[/sp] in New york is still the coolest thing ever.
The movie did a very good job of explaining some things from the comic, but to anyone who hasn't read it, they either wouldn't understand it or not like it. It was very true to the comic, except for some parts which they changed, which is why some people may not have liked it; it's not a superhero movie, it's a detective story.
Even if you don't like the plot, there is no denying the fuck-awesome special effects.
And Rorschach's badassness
My mom walked into the room in the scene where you can see Dr. Manhattan's dong. Not a pleasant thing.
I didn't read the comic and still understood everything and loved it.
I heard alot of people whom haven't read the "comic" has problems understanding it. So did my friends. At the end of the movie they just said "So, how come [sp]New York exploded?[/sp]"
I haven't read the comic, but I understood what was going on.
And to be honest, this movie seemed really pretentious. Like it's trying too hard to be an amazing movie. The ending was also really anticlimactic.
[sp]
Bad Guy: "Ima blow up New York!"
Heroes: "No! We're going to stop you!"
Bad Guy: "Too late, already blew it up."
Heroes: "Crap."
Bad Guy: "And look! It made the world better!"[/sp]
The only thing I didn't understand was the lack of explanation for that horned... tiger... thing. I heard it was some important plot point in the comic, but it just seems like the director threw it in last minute without thinking that people who haven't read the comic wouldn't know what the fuck it was. Not to mention the fact that it didn't actually do anything. It was just there for a couple scenes then got vaporized. No explanation.

if they had simply listened to [sp]ozymandias'[/sp] speech, they'd have known the answer.

funny thing, Alan Moore had wanted people to HATE Rorschach because of his strong right-wing ideals and his brutality.
anyways, yeah, the comic's better, and a lot of people who didn't read it would've been able to understand the movie better had they did. the movie's more of a companion piece to the comic than an adaption.

yeah, in the comic, it was forshadowing [sp]Ozymandias'[/sp] ability to genetically engineer things, which would result in [sp]the giant vagina squid he made being teleported into New York, dying upon arrival, and sending out a psychic wave upon death that would kill half of new york and drive a fraction of the survivors insane.[/sp]
Blue Penis.......2 1/2 hours of it.

Wow. The director kinda fucked that up didn't he.
He's like "Even though I've already radically changed the ending, removing the need for this stupid cat thing to even exist, I'm going to throw it in anyway so people can see how pretty the CG is. Even though there is no proper context, so people who haven't read the comic will get utterly confused as to what it is, and people who have read the comic will wonder why I even included it!"
I haven't read the comic, but after watching it twice I understood what was going on, but honestly, I didn't like the movie. The only parts I liked where the stuff about Rorschach and I thought it was pretty damn lame when Dr Manhattan exploded him.
The one thing I didn't understand was Ozymandias. I thought that the only person who was actually superpowered was Dr Manhattan and yet somehow Ozy manages to swing a hammer like object at immense speed.

Well he fucked up pretty bad then.
The dialogue didn't translate very well to screen, and the characters were no where near as good.
And yet, i still love this movie.
I want to watch the unltimate cut. They sploiced the Black Freighter into it.
I want my giant squid back.
srsly though. After having read the graphic novel masterpiece, the movie thoroughly dissapointed me. I guess it was because the Watchmen fans who read it already set such a high bar for the movie to reach. A pity. I did like the intro though, rest was fairly lack luster.
I enjoyed the movie. I randomly bought it in Family Video last week. I had never heard of it before, but afterwards, I became a fan and bought the comic book.
I have no personal preference between the two - they're both good in their own way at different things.
I liked the movie. The only thing I didn't quite like was that they didn't dwell into Ozymadias' story. I read the graphic novel and knew, but putting myself in the shoes of the average viewer: I wanted to know what the fuck the purple tiger thing with the rediculous ears was. Not to mention his connection to it.
Good movie. Had a few questions though. Well, not really a few; but you get what I mean.
I've got it and I want to watch it but I'm always intimidated by how long it is. That's some serious time investment. I just keep putting it off.
I loved it, and I've read the comic (one of the only comics I have read)
Just so hard to please the people of FP
Love it. Bought it on DVD when it came out, got a PS3 and bought it on Blu-Ray.
ITT: People calling Watchmen a fucking comic when it's a god damned GRAPHIC NOVEL.
Anyways, it was a fairly decent adaptation but it had extremely unnecessary fight scenes(the opening with the Comedian and the then unnamed antagonist to name one) and the music placement was god awful and the actress that plays the old Silk Spectre was fucking terrible and whoever was in charge of the make-up for her should be fired because that was b-movie quality make-up.
As far as everything else it followed the graphic novel pretty much word for word and scene for scene except for the fucking retarded change to the ending.
I wouldn't call it a retarded change, it actually closed up loose ends and stuff.

Cry some more.
It was a pretty cool movie. I like it. But the idea that fear brought peace is just unrealistic and not a very good message.

I'd say that this is the second best Michael Moore film adaptions.
Read the novel about a week before I saw the movie.
The movie is surprisingly true to the novel, to more extent, than other similar movies.

Actually it was released as individual comic books every once in a while before they put them all into one book.
