well to keep it short and simple, I have a rocketfish 500w psu and would like to get the Nvidia 460gtx SE but im wondering if my psu puts out enough juice for the gpu. i currently have a BFG Nvidia 9800gt 512mb which draws about 105w and the 460gtx is rated at 140w.
Other specs?
Mobo: Asus M4A79XTD EVO CPU: Amd Phenom II X4 970 Black Edition (not oc'd) RAM: 5gb of crucial brand something something something GPU: BFG Nvidia 9800GT 512mb PSU: Rocketfish 500w HDD: 500gb seagate and a 250gb Maxtor (or vice versa i forgot)
Yes. It should work fine. You could probably even have those in SLI.
The amperage on the +12V output is what you need to know. 140w for the vidcard 125w(non overclocked) for CPU let's say 50w for everything else 315w total, which means you need a minimum 27A on the 12v output. That's a minimum, I'd want some headroom, say 32-34A at least.
oh man rocketfish get rid of that thing ASAP it's awful [editline]10th January 2011[/editline] seems their 500W is OEMd by huntkey, terrible

Don't get the GTX 460 SE, get the GTX 460 768mb instead. Also get a decent PSU, I don't trust that thing.

The more RAM a GPU has the better it performs at higher resolutions.
The more RAM a GPU has the better it performs at higher resolutions.
so obviously the 1024mb is better than the 768mb, my monitor recommends 1680x1050 which i use on all of my games
Replace that power supply ASAP. Rocketfish power supplies are garbage.
768mb is fine at 1680x1050
Shouldn't have a problem but I wouldn't trust Rocketfish
is rocketfish's reputation really that bad? its working fine right now but I wanna get the gpu first and maybe take advantage of my warranty on the psu until i get enough to buy a decent one
Well for one Rocketfish is a Best Buy store brand. Not reputable at all.
Well for one Rocketfish is a Best Buy store brand. Not reputable at all.
i know that but in the real world, does it suck that much and in what way

SE stands for slow edition.
