The name given by The Ancestors to the entity that resides in the dark side of the planet, and kills anything human not bathed in constant sunlight. Their story is told by Joseph Crane, self described as "Humanity's Last Historian", as he broadcasts his point of view to the last remaining satellite Orbiter One. His mission starts simply, as a way to make sure that they were remembered, no matter what happened. Soon enough, things quickly change their course. He tells of Mankind's story up until that point, how they left Earth, and how The Ancestors found Oasus. He explains about himself and why he's chosen to chronicle their history. Episode Two: Our Life After getting enough charge to broadcast again, Joseph uses this time to talk about their life on the road. How they make it work living their entire lives driving on The Path. Going over how they keep their society running, how they get their food, and the hierarchy of their world. After some convincing, Joseph and Arthur head off to find it. Which can only be solved by 'The Silicone Cook', and unknown entity mentioned by her father. The Collective is a society very different from ours, and is split up into "segments" based on wealth. Starting from segment 1, all the way to the back in segment 14. Officially, every person in The Collective is assigned a Profession that helps keep the entire thing running. Mechanic [img_thumb]http://www.tecstory.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/mechanic200.png[/img_thumb] Mechanics, like many other Professions, work by utilizing a Master/Apprentice method. An apprentice does not earn The Mechanic badge until they have proven the ability to operate on a team without direction directly from their mentor. Being a Mechanic bring a heavy responsibility to it. While not respected as much as the other Professions in most segments, they are arguably the most important. Every Mechanic Master knows this, and instills that knowledge into their apprentice as they are raised into that lifestyle. They operate as the white blood cells that flow through the blood of The Collective, gathering around to repair what is broken, working together. Each segment has slightly different methods of operation for everything, and teams usually stick to their own segment. Occasionally, a crew will need support on a large repair, and will call upon the Crews from the surrounding segments, who will happily give help in return for a future favor or some credits. All in all, Mechanics are hard working and honest professionals, that know what they do is important, and stick together in the end. Farmers [img_thumb]http://www.tecstory.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/TEC-Badges-Pack-02.png[/img_thumb] Farmers include botanists and herders. One handles the plants, the other handles the animals. Botanists control and operate the Growing Trucks, which are composed of a large Puller, and kilometers of growing trailers rolling behind them. The Growing Trailers are covered in many different type of fruits and vegetable plants, gown and taken care of by the Botanists. They carefully monitor the growth and health of the plants on their trailers, and fiercely protect them. They accomplish this with carefully selected Cleaner Crews. People that are trained on how to clean each and every type of plant on the trailers, and to protect the crops from anyone and everything. Farmers, Botanists and Herders, are born into the life, and raised in luxury as they are schooled on everything there is to know to continue their family's control over their Farming Trailers, or their family's Herd. Herders monitor and observe the animals of Oasus, at least those close to The Path. More importantly, they keep a stock of live animals that travel alongside The Collective, ensuring a supply of meat if The Huntsmen can't get enough. The carefully and selectively breed the animals in their care to create the healthiest and most nutritious cattle possible. The Huntsmen [img_thumb]http://www.tecstory.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/huntsmen200.png[/img_thumb] The Huntsmen started out as simply another profession in The Collective. However, control over the group was taken recently by force by The Fletcher Kings, a group of three brothers, of which not much is known. They have transformed The Huntsmen into a warrior tribe of sorts. Where honor, survival, and the good of The Collective comes before all else. Not much is known about modern Huntsmen, as they tend to keep to themselves and only interact with the rest of The Collective when they trade the meats they hunt. They themselves provide the bulk of the meat for The Collective by sending out hunting parties into the wilderness as they move along The Path. Read The Fletcher Kings to learn more about The Huntsmen. The Cooks [img_thumb]http://www.tecstory.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/cook200.png[/img_thumb] The Cooks are straightforward. They are composed of each and every cook that populate each segment in The Collective. While not a glamorous profession, it is Cook's Crestdefinitely a respected one. While anyone can cook, not everyone can cook good. People adore the cooks because delicious food and drink are a welcome distraction from life in The Collective, and highly skilled Cooks are highly sought after, and are constantly offered higher pay and better perks in different areas. Many try out for the Cooks position, only a few are chosen. Those applying for it apprentice, and help the lead Cook prepare large meals for there area of their segment. If a student excels and shows natural skill, they can be tested to be promoted to a Lead Cook and be offered a position in another area. They must create a brand new recipe with the same few ingredients every apprentice has been tested with for ages, if they impress, they are promoted, if they do not, they must remain an apprentice to the Lead Cook. Even an apprentice cook is easier than many other professions, so often times people are happy with that position as well. The Mapkeepers [img_thumb]http://www.tecstory.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/mapkeepers.png[/img_thumb] The Mapkeepers stay near the front of the collective, using strange and unknown technology to help navigate The Path. While The Path is where you will always find The Collective, there are often things that can change along it in the span of a Cycle. That is only one of The Mapkeepers duties in The Collective. They track humanity's position along The Path and relay the information to the rest of them, indicating when certain protocols must be initiated. It is unknown who The Mapkeepers are, as they are not seen by the rest of The Collective except for the powerful near the Front. The Guard [img_thumb]http://www.tecstory.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/TEC-Badges-Pack-08.png[/img_thumb] The Guard is composed of anyone and everyone tasked with protecting The Collective. They are an honorable group, that while not always in action, are always ready to protect the innocent. Not every Caravan is a Professional Council vehicle, ever official Guard is a PC member. They protect the entire Collective from Segment One, to almost the very last one. While they are explicitly not welcome in the last segment, they are often appreciated by everyone because of what they do. Part of their duty is to maintain the peace within The Collective, and another is to protect The Collective from the creatures of Oasus, which are plenty and powerful. Each and every single one of them is ready and willing to sacrifice their life to save the innocent. Scientist [img_thumb]http://www.tecstory.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/TEC-Badges-Pack-01.png[/img_thumb] TEC-Badges-Pack-01Scientist might seem out of place in a world of brutal survival, but their role is an important one. They work in tandem with the Farmers and herders to constantly evolve the genetic strains of the plants and animals to be stronger and fight off the evolving diseases that are common among them. They also work together to try and improve the technology of The Collective, to make life more efficient and easier on everyone. Furthermore, they study Oasus itself, and the plants and animals found on the planet in hopes to complete their understanding of their world. While they are not looked upon with kindness by those in the back, because they feel they don't do "real" work, they try their best to improve life for all of The Collective.
