>It's Obi Wan from ANH, the line going all the way through, "Before the dark times. Before the Empire" just as the Death Star is revealed
>It's definitely the first Death Star
>Though we only see the top half, like a dome against the skyline
>"A rogue band of resistance fighters unite to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy!"
>The film takes place after Episode III and before Episode IV, Edwards reiterates
>But he says "maybe a little bit more towards four," adding that ANH is his favorite film
>He says it's interesting that there are nearly no Jedi
>It's a scenario "where God isn't coming to save us"
>“It comes down to a group of individuals who don’t have magical powers that have to somehow bring hope to the galaxy.”
>The moderator is asking about how the film will impact Rebels, which i set in the same time period
>She says that they don't mandate things crossing over, but they are aware of the potential
>"Real" is the term they want tied to Rogue One
>"It's hopefully going to feel very natural and subjective," says Edwards
>He doesn't want the good guys to be really good or the bad guys to be really bad
>"It's the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good."
>He says it's really about shades of grey
>They're showing a still!
>A whole group of rebel soliders running in the rain
>There's a ship behind them I don't recognize. Midway between an X-Wing and a Y-Wing
>Felicity Jones plays...
>"a rebel soldier"
>He says they wanted a character that show range. Fear, humor and warmth.
>"She's the complete package," says Edwards
>One of the elements that ties a lot of these filmmakers together is their work on gritty war films
>Zero Dark Thirty, Black Hawk Down, etc
>"Yeah," says Edwards with a smile, "Star *Wars*"
I don't get what I'm seeing but I like it.
Disney is pulling out all stops for these movies aren't they? Have they finally resurrected star wars from shitty kids shows and whored out toys, and brought it back to good movies?

Disney's a weird 50/50 split. They want Episode 7 to hit and hit good, and any spin-offs they make, so long as it's not part of their cartoon stuff besides Rebels, they want it to also do well and know how to hit that it seems. The other 50 is cancellations, crappy humor cartoons, and really strange business decisions otherwise.

Looks to me like they're just trying to re-create the MCU formula by using another popular, well-loved franchise. Movie looks alright (nothing against SW, I'm going to see Episode VII for sure) but I'm not too keen on throwing more and more spin-offs all over the place just because it's popular. From a business standpoint it's obvious, but Disney better be careful they don't go down the Lucas route...
I was excited when I first heard the title and that it wasn't focused on any of the Jedi and probably the pilots. I'm even more excited after seeing and hearing this.
Gritty star wars film? Sign me up.
This is much better than Top Gun in space.
Clearer version of the teaser

It says right in the OP no magical powers.

Doesn't mean there won't be lightsabers, or that jedi won't feature in some way.
The jedi are all but extinct. They only known ones alive in Canon right now are Obi-Wan, Yoda, Kanan and Ahsoka Tano.
[editline]19th April 2015[/editline]
Just saying I find it unlikely there will be a jedi in the film based on what we know.
Vader and Sheev could appear. That excites me a little.

Non-canon. Along with my main man Dash Rendar.
It still hurts.

Just think of the Yuuzhan Vong and remember the good parts of the purge.

kyle is from games, books and comics right?'
where did his character come from originally?
Doesn't mean there won't be lightsabers, or that jedi won't feature in some way.
Jedi are like the Space Marines. There's a handful of them, and then hordes upon hordes of regular people with guns that get thrown at problems like meat into a grinder.

And like Space Marines, despite their rareness in lore, the media is plastered with them.
I don't know what to think of this, besides the Obi-Wan quote it didn't feel very Star Warsy. Anxious to see more though, it could go either way.

first appearance was in dark forces the video game.
first appearance was in dark forces the video game.
IIRC You were originally supposed to play as Luke, but they found that too limiting in terms of what they could do with the story, so they made a new character.

Oh, and the inter-galactic jizz wailers.

No, the jizz wailers are still completely canon.

No he's still there.
His ship is in the special edition of Episode 4 which is canon.
