I know that it is not very good, but the server is mainly going to be used by me and some friends to play garrys mod. The sever currently gets 60-70 fps, what would be the best thing to upgrade to increase fps/ overall performance? Specs: AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (2.08 GHz) 1 Gb DDR PC2700 80 Gb PATA HDD 128 Mb Nvidia 5500 AGP Video Card Internet Connection: I have about an $150 budget for upgrades.
Why are you using a server to play video games?
Holy shit 5 ping.
Why are you using a server to play video games?
I'm not, its running srcds.
2gb of ram would help
ram
Possibly RAM, or hard drive.

want I would get more ram, and downgrade the graphics card for one that draws less power if you have any spare laying around. mine currently has a RAGE 128 PRO and averages 259 FPS (dual core AMD @ 2.1GHZ with a gig of ram, built entirely out of spares).
Oh man that speed is so nice My server has: Sempron 1.7Ghz 896MB Ram nVidia 8600GT For a 16 slot Gmod Server, ram usage is at less than 300mb, and cpu is at 0-20% with 6people For your rig, I would chuck a dual core into that, and more ram, if its Socket 939/DDR then I think that ebay would be a better palce to look for getting old parts,

whhaaaaa My ISP's upload speed is terrible ... Anyway I'd get an extra stick of RAM if I were you.
Check it's RAM usages, if they're above 60% you should upgrade that. CPU, if it's doing +50% you should upgrade that.
thanks guys. i appreciate the help. After checking mobo specs, turns out it maxes at 1gb of ram. But on ebay I got a 2.2GHz cpu for $15. not bad. Now to wait for ups to deliver it.......
