Devotees of a dead guru in India have told the BBC they put his body in a freezer to preserve him as they believe he will return to life to lead them.
Ashutosh Maharaj was declared dead by authorities in Punjab on 29 January after a suspected heart attack.
But, confident that he was merely in a state of deep meditation, his followers froze his corpse.
He led the Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (Divine Light Awakening Mission) which claims more than 30 million followers.
"He is not dead. Medical science does not understand things like yogic science. We will wait and watch. We are confident that he will come back," his spokesman Swami Vishalanand told the BBC.
He said that although doctors had declared Maharaj "clinically dead", he was actually alive and in a state of samadhi, which is the highest plane of meditation.
"The body did not decompose before we put it in the freezer. It was a spiritual experience[...]"
Yeah he's probably just plain dead.
If the heart attack didn't kill him, the freezing will. Fucking morons.
I'm sceptical, but also really want to see this guy just wake up like 7 years from now and be all like
yo what'd I miss
I thought that once the body is frozen it's up to someone outside to bring him back into consciousness.
How do they plan on him returning on his own to lead them?
Guys Starpluck made the title, he's mocking it.

Sorry but...
Eventually, some 450 policemen entered his religious centre on the outskirts of the city and took away his decomposing body for cremation in the face of fierce protests by the devotees.
The greatest Guru, in the world.
Isn't it strange how much people believe something despite the massive amount of evidence against it?
40 years from now
"Rest in peace"
"He's not dead he's just meditating"
Shit though, this reminds me of when in Space Station 13 you get parapenned and the chef or chaplain thinks it is a good idea to destroy your body.
Sorry but...
Wow imagine being them and having their prophet's literal body just taken and torched
He's only decomposing guys, that's normal for meditation. Getting more in touch with nature. No really he's still alive.
Yeah he's probably just plain dead.
no he's not obviously you have no experience with yogi bear science
[IMG_thumb]http://www.mtv.com/crop-images/2013/08/26/JohnFrusciante_cr_KevinWinter_2008.jpg[/IMG_thumb]
john frusciante's dead???
If he's still alive, what reason did they have for wanting to freeze the body?
no he's not obviously you have no experience with yogi bear science
I know he's smarter than the average bear, but even the smartest can't cheat death right now.
A smart man would make a fair trade.

It'd be like having Neil deGrasse Tyson burned at the stake.
They cremate his body and the ashes come to life and form a person. Thats what'll happen.
Lenin isn't decomposing for more than 70 years already.
Soviet Guru >> Any other guru.
Guru meditation error: killing thread 0000yourmajororgans.
What if they forget about him, then 200~ years in the future, some scavengers who survived some kind of global disaster find him, and unfreeze him.
I'd totally want to be him.

"So did world peace happen?... Oh, so China invaded Alaska"
afk
back wow who killed me
they put his body in a freezer
Even if he wasn't dead and was in fact in that deep state of meditation, freezing him in a normal freezer would kill him. In order to freeze something without damaging it, you would need to 'shock freeze' it ie instantly lower his body's temperature to at least -18C (at an ambient air temperature of -40°C) and keep it there.
"Due to the slow freezing that takes place in ordinary freezers, the water contained in the food goes from the liquid state to macrocrystals of ice which, as they expand, cause the cell membranes and fibres to break up. The food, with its torn cells and fibres, can no longer keep the fluids which contain its nutrients."

And that would only preserve the cells. The person will still die. :v:
Sorry but...
No, that happened in 1993 with a similar incident. This one is still is the works but will probably happen again.
