• Building PC soon need help with pricing and specs?

I'm thinking of upgrading soon, well depending how much it would cost to build a pc that could run say BF3 high settings and record it too with little FPS drop, or games like Crysis 3(I can easily save up over the months to afford it).
What's your current hardware? (Considering some parts can probaly be salvaged) Also, Intel's Haswell should be coming out @ Summer time, it uses a new socket - so it might be worth it to wait. Just FYI.
If not for buying Haswell, because it'll mean a huge drop in the old processors FYI. That's what I'm waiting for before I make the switch to Intel.

Once the socket dies prices will hike due to stopped production and all you'll be able to afford are used chips which you can get for cheap now anyways.
Do you have some sort of budget? It's easier to work to one. £1000?
I was thinking £1500? and parts being salvaged, i'll probably just take this PC i'm on now to my dad's so when I visit him I can use it/play games there.

Anyone got anything yet?
I'll do one right now. [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] Do you need a screen and keyboard as part of that? [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] Also do you need an OS? [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/Dm0p [editline]13th February 2013[/editline] If you don't the OS, you could get a nicer monitor (a 2560x1440 maybe), or if you don't need either you could SLI a 670, but then again you can always do that later.

So minus the OS and monitor it goes to £1258.75 which is good was just wondering that will it be able to record and play BF3 at high without FPS/much FPS drops?
If you're using fraps, one thing that bottlenecks a whole lot is the harddrive. Linus (Tech Tips) talks about it. Also, 1TB for recordings and everything might get a bit tight after a while, unless you remember to encode right after you recorded.
Well i'll get around to working out what to do properly when I buy the parts and will probably bump this for help on that kinda stuff.
Don't get the Crucial M4 for SSD. Kingston HyperX 3K, Samsung 840/840 Pro, and Corsair Neutron/Neutron GTX are all newer and much faster.

I am running an M4 in both my laptop and desktop, and am very happy with the performance and reliability, so never really looked elsewhere.
It's not necessarily a bad drive, just old with some major past firmware issues. Still better than a regular HDD anyways.
TBH you'd be better off ordering this for the case, a lot cheaper and it's p damn good, too: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-Z11-Plus-Installation-Anti-Vibration/dp/B007C008L2/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1360884085&sr=1-1 Or you could get this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-Z9-Plus-Midi-Tower/dp/B004FPQL0E/ref=pd_sim_computers_11 I use it and it came with three fans, p cheap price and excellent cooling. Only downside is that you might have to dust it monthly, but it aint too difficult.
