Is there anything better than Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets to use for desktop gadgets?
Quick Google search and I found a site:

I was thinking like a completely different program like Google Desktop, but this is good too.
How do I view any pages other than the homepage?

Now it works.
I've never really seen the point of gadgets. Since they're on your desktop, they'll be behind your browser window. And if they're always on top, they'll get in the way when gaming, etc.

Hovering over the Show desktop button in Windows 7 turns your windows clear and you can peek at your gadgets.
Back when i had XP, I thought gadgets were cool, but now that i have W7, i never use them so i disabled them.
to the op: google rainmeter.
its completely customizable, you can make your own meters if you want. here is my desktop.

i use simplesentence, but of course there are thousands of different skins to use, all different shapes and forms etc.
I have coded a few of my own, I have a webcam stream of my local marina on my desktop.
the hell rated me dumb, is dumb. rainmeter is like a suped up version of windows gadgets, go away.
Rainmeter is probably your best bet if you want more desktop gadgets. It's one of the more supported widget program, and it's fairly easy to use and edit the ini files. Hell, some skins don't even need you to edit the INI for the more basic tweaks, they have a little settings box for common variables like the colour.
Unless you have two monitors I never understood the need for stuff like this.
Only problem I have is that they are so freeking tiny on my huge 1080p monitor.

Saying you have a 1080p monitor doesn't say anything about its size, fyi.
is there a rainmeter that just does standard text, low cpu usage on the desktop etc etc
oh wait i use bbLean B)
I know /wg/ has some great rainmeter stuff. I see it a ton when I go to get a few new walls.
