NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire -09/27/11)- The DVD streaming and mail delivery sector has become far more competitive in the last month. Price hikes and spinoffs at Netflix have set in motion a Netflix customer rebellion that Blockbuster is capitalizing on. The Bedford Report examines the outlook for companies in the Music and Video Stores Industry and provides equity research on Blockbuster, Inc. (Pinksheets: BLOAQ.PK - News) and Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX - News). Access to the full company reports can be found at:

Blockbuster, once the leader in video rentals, had filed for bankruptcy when it couldn't counter the threat posed by Netflix, Inc., whose DVD-by-mail service and subsequent expansion into video streaming revolutionized home entertainment. Blockbuster has since emerged from the doldrums with the aid of Dish Network, and is now becoming a promising comeback story.
Last week Dish Network announced a new product, the Blockbuster Movie Pass, which combines the services offered by the two brands. The pass is a lot like what Netflix offered until this month, as it is a combination of DVDs by mail and video streamed online. The pass also adds in the satellite subscription service for which Dish Network is known, as well as games by mail. Dish calls it "the most comprehensive entertainment package ever."

Shares of Netflix have been on the downswing since the company announced new subscription plans for its DVD-by-mail and streaming customers. Under the new plan, customers who seek to subscribe for both the DVD-by-mail and streaming services will have to pay $16.00 per month for unlimited access. Previously, Netflix used to charge $10.00 a month for the bundled offering.
Not only Blockbuster, Netflix must also fend off other new competition, including streaming services from Hulu.com and Amazon.com Inc. and $1-per-day DVD rentals from Redbox kiosks.

Netflix has competition again!
but for those who don't care about dvd by mail, netflix remains a very superior way to watch movies

(compared to dish and blockbuster)
once it rains, they'll file bankruptcy again.
I missed you, Blockbuster. I remember renting games from there for my N64.
The Blockbuster near my house has been since turned into a party store.
Dish Network still exists?
I have not heard of them since they released a satellite DVR/WebTV combo system.
I just came back from Blockbuster, actually (got Rage, woooooo). Glad to see some competition.

I love netflix simply because I can stream movies or TV shows anywhere because of 4G. It's just really useful. I couldn't care about the DVD delivery and changed the plan as soon as they announced it.
Blockbuster Freedom Passes are amazing, glad they're back.
I never really liked Netflix for some reason. I'm glad Blockbuster is back on the block.
I hate Blockbuster for one reason (At least in my area)
Rent a game, Forget to take it back (Overdue a couple days) They charge you automatically full price for the game. You get to keep it, but you just paid $70 for it

That's why I like the deal we have now. We get two movies/games out a month, and can switch 'em out for other movies/games whenever we want. Damn, I sound like a commercial.
I remember renting systems from Blockbuster, that ruled...
I never really understood what the logo was supposed to be. Is it a movie ticket or a VHS cassette box?
I remember stealing from Blockbuster.
What
I remember renting Portal 2 from Blockbuster before they closed down. A week later after I did, I remembered I was supposed to bring it back 2 days before they closed it down. But it turns out they never called about it, so it pretty much means I get to keep the game.

I just hope they don't remember about it and ask for it back.
I never really understood what the logo was supposed to be. Is it a movie ticket or a VHS cassette box?
I only see the movie ticket.
I never liked Blockbuster, maybe because I've always liked the underdog and now that the movie industry is trying to get rid of Netflix I like them but I feel Blockbuster should have went out years ago.
I never really understood what the logo was supposed to be. Is it a movie ticket or a VHS cassette box?
Movie ticket.
I think once their back, they should remake thier logo.
I remember the good old days, when Blockbuster rented out entire gaming systems.
I remember when the movie store I used to rent games from closed down because block buster moved in right across the street from it.
Little me was so pissed I drew pictures of myself driving a tank into the store and shooting dragons at it or something what the fuck

i took so many games and never got charged full price :)
blockbuster was the only place where I could rent my games in the past from PS2, Xbox, PS1, and other games out there. I'm going to miss them.
Is the Blockbuster in America different to the one in the UK? I read that it was shutting down a few months ago, but the Blockbusters I go to has been open the whole time and the website has always been up.
I am seriously considering switching to dish due to this.
The Blockbuster near my house is now a Subway. I don't think they're coming back here.

Maybe the UK one is doing better.

Our local Blockbuster was turned into a freakin' vitamin shop since several years ago. I remember renting one of the classic Mario Party copies and playing it for about a week when I was very young. Really disappointed when we had to send it back.
