• Virus help, "system tools" and "doctor something"
    4 replies, posted
So I was talking to a friend of mine earlier, and she mentioned she seems to have a virus on her computer. In short, with prodding, there's a window that keeps popping up posing as an antivirus to counteract "other threats" and she can't really do anything. That and the name is all I have to go off of. I remember hearing of this "System tools doctor" or whatever (Wasn't terribly specific), or something to that effect. Anyways, I'm going to try and help her out tomorrow. I have a general idea what to check for and do, but any help would be much appreciated. If there's any specific procedure for getting rid of this, or anybody's tips for this (First time I'd be doing this in a while, or on another person's computer), I'd love to hear them. Thanks.
boot in safe mode scan with MBAM http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
One of my friends had a nasty one, it ran in safe mode. What I did to fix it was booting from a kaspersky flash drive, and scanned it with it's mini-Linux thing. Only downside it has is that it requires your attention to continue when it finds something, and a few error messages pop up when you login saying there is a missing dll or exe. Then do what the above poster said.
It's problematic. Kaspersky didn't want to install in full, and the AVP tool or whatever they have for removal worked very well. Until I restarted the computer. It started the virus again and re-copied it, I suppose. Malware Bytes did the same thing. Any suggestions, or something I'm doing wrong?I may reformat and keep the necessary files. Any ideas before that?

It's not like she'll lose 50GB of games and 80GB of porn like most of us, when you reformat. I hope.
