He may be gone, but he's not forgotten. In fact, Michael Jackson has brought in so much bank since his June 2009 passing that he's landed the No. 1 spot on Forbes's Top-Earning Dead Celebrities List. According to Forbes, Jackson's estate has brought in a whopping $275 million over the past 12 months – more than the combined earnings of superstars Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Madonna, and more than any living artist or group, for that matter. "[Jackson's] kids are going to have grandkids before that money's gone," estate lawyer Donald David, who handled Tupac Shakur's finances, tells the magazine. The beloved singer's good fortune is due in large part to licensing deals cut by executors of his estate, a surge in sales of his music catalog and the $250 million box office of his film, "This Is It." "There is a strong demand for Michael Jackson's music and merchandise, and that will only increase as more material surfaces in the years following his death," says Adam Kluger of product-placement outfit the Kluger Agency. Adds Susan Blond, Jackson's publicist during his "Thriller" days, "His earning potential will only increase year after year, as his legacy continues to be cemented. When our great-grandchildren are talking about music, it will be Michael Jackson over Elvis Presley." Rounding out the lucky 13 deceased top earners, in order of rank: Elvis Presley, $60 million; author J.R.R. Tolkien, $50 million; Peanuts cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, $33 million; John Lennon, $17 million; author Stieg Larsson, $15 million; Dr. Seuss, $11 million; Albert Einstein, $10 million; New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, $8 million; songwriter Richard Rodgers, $7 million; Jimi Hendrix, $6 million; Steve McQueen, $6 million; Aaron Spelling, $5 million.
Nah jesus has made the most money
They have to be real celebrities to be on the list.
Thats more then my parents make in 8 years. And all he's doing is lying down...
Maybe I should lie down. :saddowns:
Thats more then my parents make in 8 years. And all he's doing is lying down...
Your parents make a quarter million dollars in 8 years? Jesus.
Your parents make a quarter million dollars in 8 years? Jesus.
a quarter = 0.25.... 250,000 Dollars? I think you're suppose to say Billion right?
Thats more then my parents make in 8 years. And all he's doing is lying down...
Do your parents work in McDonalds or something? Both of my parents make overall 75000 a year.
I feel sorry for The Beatles.
Thats more then my parents make in 8 years. And all he's doing is lying down...
They make 275 million in 8 years?
Thus is the fate of an artist, your work is worth more after your die.
They make 275 million in 8 years?

Thats more then my parents make in 8 years. And all he's doing is lying down...
It could be anything from 10$ to millions. :v:
It could be anything from 10$ to millions. :v:
They could, in face, be losing money.
It could be anything from 10$ to millions. :v:
Yeah I suppose. I imagined that "8 years" would be relevant.
My father can and has made $90 000 to $270 000 a year as a builder of custom homes, not to mention the amount of profit for selling our own house occasionally. But, that can be pretty hectic so my parents want to do less work and own a horse rehabilitation centre.
This isn't the "How Much Money Do Your Parents Make a Year Thread" because that's a terrible idea for a thread. And to counter the point of artist are more noticed while dead, he just topped the list, but not his own sales. His death was just a reminder of his music, rather than the reason his albums are selling.
It takes 17,300 years for my parents to make that money
Ah, dammit. I liked Elvis better.
Who is getting the money he earns?
$275 million over the past 12 months
That's more than I earn in a week!
Ah, dammit. I liked Elvis better.
Apart from his debut album, name one groundbreaking album by elvis.
His movie would have gone straight to DVD, but then he died.
Nah jesus has made the most money
jesus lived in poverty
His movie would have gone straight to DVD, but then he died.
The movie would've never been made and the concerts would've made him 500 mil. So either way he would be one of richest musicians alive.
it'll take my dad 415 years to earn that.
i heard that. thats insane
"While dead"? Shouldn't that be "after death"? Using "while" seems to imply that that status is going to change at some point.
Your parents make a quarter million dollars in 8 years? Jesus.
That's...a lot?
"While dead"? Shouldn't that be "after death"? Using "while" seems to imply that that status is going to change at some point.
They changed it to "while" because Elvis kept screwing their shit up
If I ever become a pop-star like MJ I'm gonna fake my death, earn millions on it and then rise from the "dead" and earn even more money on a comeback tour.
