My Toshiba Satellite laptop just stopped working entirely

Today, I was using my Toshiba Satellite laptop, everything worked great. Time for class comes around, I shut it down, pack it up, and try to restart it as soon as I get settled into class less than five minutes later and it doesn't work.
The power light comes on, I hear the DVD drive and the HDD turn on, along with the fan, but nothing else. The screen gets no power, and the speakers don't make the normal startup noises, so I know it's not just the monitor. And from what I can tell, the computer isn't actually accessing the HDD, just powering it on.
Since then I have opened it up to make sure the memory and the HDD are seated properly, and looked to see if I could see any obviously loose connections.
My question to you, Facepunch: is there anything that might have caused this other than me somehow trashing my mobo? And if so, how the hell do I fix it?
Is the hdd light flickering?
I would check the power supply if I was you.
In particular look to see if the 5V is there.

No it is not, which is why I think it is not being accessed

To be honest, I'm not so sure about tearing it apart enough to get a good look at the power supply. Everything is attached to everything else on that thing and opening it up as much as I did was a huge pain in the ass. I always feel like it's so easy to break stuff when I open it up, and avoid doing so as much as possible.
I fucking hate laptops.
I would recommend you let a professional have a look at it, laptops are not the easiest things to troubleshoot.

meh, this thing's too old to be worth the money anymore. I was just hoping it would hold out until this summer when I was planning on building a new PC
