So FC Blood Dragon is the worst, FC4 is the best, and FC Instincts isn't even included in the list?
I would say that fc4 is the weakest open world game I've seen in a long ass time when you really think about the fact that it's fc3 with a paint job. Like fc3 was great but it had interesting people as characters, it was a really solid game. But in fc4 has all of the features of fc3 with none of the good parts of it... pretty much everyone outside Pagan Min is a boring, uninspired mess and I couldn't possibly care less for the protagonists. In fact, I'd root for Pagan just out of him actually being an actual person that isn't some dullard who I could care less for. Like I could actually see myself justifying the dude just out of him being actually written by someone that cared. The 20 minute wait for the alternate Pagan ending was more fun than the hours of gameplay the game actually had. lets not forget the really obnoxious amount of times you pretty much get auto-hit by an eagle/snake/etc that attacks even when its being shot at. It's very hard to avoid and you might even be attacked by an eagle and then immediately a snake in the middle of combat FC2 was well made but unbelievably boring and had too many flaws. It was grinding without the reward. The entire game was all the same thing over and over again, but also you can randomly die if you forget to take your meds, forcing you to redo the same boring things over again. That being said fc2 would be the best far cry if it did its stuff right but idk, I just don't find it fun at all. [editline]11th August 2017[/editline] Far cry 1 though was a fucking masterpiece.
Far cry 1 though was a fucking masterpiece.
Far Cry 1 is much like Crysis 1. They're both great games where you sneak and shoot your way through enemy outposts on a tropical island and everything is fine, then the mutants/aliens show up and ruin the fun.
I always thought Far Cry 2 was the worst. It was one terrible thing after another as far as I remember. Plus enemies would come out of literally nowhere when exploring, so it wasn't long before I pretty much ragequit
Far Cry 2 is a mixed bag for me because it does everything perfect EXCEPT for the enemy encounters. It's like an 8 star meal fit for the gods but the drinks are piss Far Cry 3 was almost a great game. It had so much more stuff to do than FC2 and it fixed what was wrong with it(enemy encounters) but it set itself up to be greater and fell short because of it. The main character going insane from the killing would have been great but they didn't develop it enough and the early part of the game is just grinding for better stuff and it makes it a chore to play. I didn't start enjoying it until you get the wingsuit

Remember Xbox Live and Predator mode? That was some cool shit
Far Cry 2 is a mixed bag for me because it does everything perfect EXCEPT for the enemy encounters
The brown color scheme and we're-on-at-least-7-different-drugs-to-be-this-hyper dialogue weren't great, either. Frankly, the entire game feels like they had a great idea with huge potential, but then they were given a budget of three twigs and one stone with an engine that comes with about a paragraph of documentation. Far Cry 3 is just Far Cry 2 in the jungle with immensely more polish and some modern trends like RPG lite elements. If they cut down the game's length by removing all the [sp]Hoyt[/sp] bullshit and ending it around the time [sp]Vaas dies[/sp] and cutting back on the dull hunting and gathering bits, Far Cry 3 would've been an absolutely fantastic game. It gets a lot more heavily scripted, which isn't the game's strong suit, the no-grav portion was pretty boring and went on way too long, and I hope you like game-breaking bugs right near the end of the game because there's a pretty big one that, even if you had a save from right where it needed to be to prevent it, you just lost half an hour of progress.

Tons of really dumb new ideas that failed and this game takes not only new ideas but really effectively uses them. It's trival today, but in the time it was pretty amazing. Even stupid shit, like grenades blowing out little dents in sand and the binoculars hearing enemies was pretty great. It just had a lot of good details in it making for a good game. In its time the game was very impressive.
I found FC4 more fun then 3 Also had a better map editor [editline]11th August 2017[/editline]
So FC Blood Dragon is the worst, FC4 is the best, and FC Instincts isn't even included in the list?
Well it is PC Gamer, instincts wasn't on PC.
Yeah, I found Farcry 4 far better than 3. Blood Dragon was great though. Honestly, I'm not someone who looks back on Farcry 2 fondly or with forgiveness. I did not like it at all.
fake news, we all know Far Cry 3 was the best
i was going to say i disagree with the list, but not entirely. i condemn them for making this list and not replaying all the fucking games, but after some thought i would say that farcry 4 is still not better than the first game, but it deserves to be second place. i'll say that the story drags the first game down, the uninspired open world aspects of farcry 4 drag it down. having replayed them recently i'd say i'd prefer to play through the first game over fc4, except for that part at the end where it gets really fucking hard.
Fuck off, Blood Dragon was great.
I greatly enjoyed Far Cry 2 and 4. FC4 especially because of all the different ways of finishing the game and how it plays several tropes straight. This is especially obvious immediately after playing through FC3. While there were some great parts in the first half (Vaas especially and the CIA guy), 3 just falls flat during the second half. Completely ruined the experience for me. The CIA guy referencing the story of CoD4 was also kind of strange. I don't feel FC1 has aged well at all due to how the AI functions. As several have mentioned the AI can see you and shoot you through tents and other semi-solid surfaces. Not to mention just about every human enemy effectively has an aim bot. For some reason I REALLY enjoyed 2 when it came out, despite everything wrong with it. And there is a LOT wrong with FC2. To put it another way, Blood Dragon is pretty cool too. I killed laser dragons with a minigun.
far cry 2 was amazing but the respawning guard posts and lack of actual stealth killed it for me the game with mods however looks magnificent.
far cry 2 was amazing but the respawning guard posts and lack of actual stealth killed it for me
After playing Far Cry 3, I found it to be not too difficult to get a hang of the stealth. Far Cry 2's stealth system is ALMOST functionally the same, but it's highly based on the weather, and has no grace period for being in an enemy's line of sight. Rain, fog and strong heat all affect the AI's reaction times. You won't be able to hide in a bush in full sunlight when the sun's shining directly on you, but you should be able to do it when the sun starts to set, for example. The biggest problem with the stealth system is that there are no indicators at all, which makes things unnecessarily difficult.
I liked Fa Cry 2's stealth, and got the hang of it pretty quick when I was playing it. It makes more sense to me than having a giant blinking arrow telling you when the enemies see you, and enemies didn't somehow miss the mansized shape holding a rifle walk through their plane of view. You didn't do some sick take down with the machete, you just shot the fucking guy in the back of the head with the silenced makarov or mp5. Dunno, the game just made me feel like a 3rd world no nonsense mercenary. I always really liked the intro, sets a pretty good tone for the story playing up that little bit.

If you remain unseen and silently kill someone, suddenly everyone in the area magically knows where you are, and are usually firing their guns before they've even turned to face you.
