Marvel is excited to announce an all-new era for the God of Thunder in brand new series, THOR, written by Jason Aaron (Thor: God of Thunder, Original Sin) complimented with art from Russell Dauterman (Cyclops). This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of Marvel’s "big three" – Captain American, Iron Man and Thor – Marvel Comics will be introducing an all-new THOR, GOD OF THUNDER. No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge will who will be worthy of the name THOR. Who is she? Where did she come from and what is her connection to Asgard and the Marvel Universe?
"The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription," says Marvel editor Wil Moss. "The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"
why is her armour sculpted around her breasts
So instead of making a brand new strong female character they had to change one of the oldest male characters.
Wow.
....And this is a real thing.
I feel disappointed though. At least it's not a genderbend / genderswap. It's a new person wielding the hammer, but what the fuck happened that the original Thor couldn't use it anymore?

I mean, Thor is male. Viking traditions and legends have always shown Thor as male. The comic book character has been male for over 50 years now. We already have a female lightning character (Storm, X-men)! I really hope this is a joke...

Because they don't know how armor works I guess.
snip, not a good idea

this is crap I'd expect from DC, not Marvel
then again, if it was DC they would just make him a transvestite or gay to "appeal" to people, rather than making a new character that is that way
Sounds interesting to me, given that it isn't the actual god Thor, but a new person. Curious to see where the story goes here.
(Of course people will just shit all over it by spewing shit about "SJWS RUINING MY COMICS!!!!!" and ignore any good aspects of it, though)

That's simple, he probably got his ass handed to him by Jormungand. This might be post-Ragnarok or something.
The overall concept is alright, but that look is not.
No seriously, her breast plate is massively off-putting.
That's simple, he probably got his ass handed to him by Jormungand. This might be post-Ragnarok or something.
Well, Thor is supposed to die in that fight. It would stand to reason.
she looks cool to me
then again im a sucker for girls with cool armor beating up evil things
First the Rock as Hercules, then they genderbend Thor too? Aughhhhhhhh

Riiiiggght. He does die at some point, doesn't he.
im gonna be real interested how they managed to work this out.
seriously.
I mean I know beta ray bill got to be thor for a while and he wasn't even humanoid, but still. Its annoying.
Maybe the previous guy decided it was time to retire. He did pick the hammer up sometime in the '60s as I recall.
Personally, I'm waiting for Deadpool's reaction to the new girl.
if the story makes sense for the new female thor to exist then its all good imo
She'll have a good time if she get's hit in the chest hard enough
why is her armour sculpted around her breasts
Because she probably has a cracking pair of tits under there that just couldn't be contained any other way.
It's kind of worth pointing out that it's a different person assuming the role of the god, they're not just switching regular Thor's gender. Wasn't there a period in like the 90's where Thor was a weird alien bird thing?

Yeah, that guy.
I dig the overall design. If it wasn't for extremely stupid (butt-of-the-joke-stupid) breastplate...
She doesn't look, I dunno, rough enough? Like, she still seems to fall into the problem most comic book supergals do: her entire costume and body is based on sex appeal rather than practicality. She should be buff, with real armor, like an actual Asgardian warrior would probably be.
Why don't they just use Freya or Skadi, both Norse goddesses with links to battle and hunting? I can't see the reason for changing an existing character so dramatically when they could just use a new one.

Yeah seriously where are her tits supposed to go if she doesn't have sculpted armour

self-contained pocket tit dimension
This... doesn't even fit the mythology. I haven't read the comics but isn't this just staged of the mythology?
Nice work Marvel. Nice fucking work.

Comic book characters generally don't give two dicks about practicality (if it's not their character trait/defining characteristic), it's all about looks. And if anything, Asgardian warriors would likely wear nothing at all, coming to that... the lot responsible for worshiping them respected skill and battle prowess, not invincibility and protection.
Rule 63 gone WAY too far.
Think of it this way: It'll boost comic sales and give a nice alternate costume in all those Marvel video games.
Thor isn't going to be a woman forever, just for a while. It'll help all those dumb dudes who think women are intruding in their world, since now it's not a new, separate female superhero, it's one of the comic book world's most beloved and respected heroes becoming a woman, therefore deserving all the same respect of the male Thor.
Could be worse, He could have been replaced by a frog again.
