Syria Live Blog Poisonous gas sprayed in Homs leaves seven people dead and scores affected, activists say December 24, 2012 - 04:07 Seven people have died in Homs after they inhaled a poisonous gas sprayed by government forces in a rebel-held neighbourhood, activists said. Activists also told Al Jazeera that scores of others were affected in al-Bayyada neighbourhood. Side effects reported include nausea, relaxed muscles, blurred vision, and breathing difficulties. Residents said they did not know the nature of the gas sprayed. "The situation is very difficult. We do not have enough facemasks. We don't know what this gas is but medics are saying it's something similar to Sarin gas," Raji Rahmet Rabbou, an activist in Homs, told Al Jazeera. We received the following videos from a field clinic in the city:
http://blogs.aljazeera.com/topic/syria/poisonous-gas-sprayed-homs-leaves-seven-people-dead-and-scores-affected-activists-say http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ENXXON59XUg
Well, shit.
Was only a matter of time.
Shit is about to hit the fan.
wow. no seriously. wow.
Well, I guess the UN is committed to intervene?
And that's that over with. This time next week Al-Assad's not gonna have a regime anymore, and there will be UN-backed M1A2s in Aleppo.
2 hours later they are invaded by half the world
to be fair to them who really knows if it was SAA or some FSA deploying it
Buckle up boys
Google news seems pretty silent on this.
Its like a game of limbo, where you see how low you can go till outside forces intervene
Jesus. How pathetic do you have to be to resort to this?
to be fair to them who really knows if it was SAA or some FSA deploying it
This was sprayed in a rebel-held neighborhood.
Man, the UN is going to have a field day
This was sprayed in a rebel-held neighborhood.
That and sarin gas isn't really easy to obtain. Also remind me, wasn't sarin gas classed as an WMD and banned for use, anywhere?
This was sprayed in a rebel-held neighborhood.
But what if the rebels did it to hasten the end of Assad? :tinfoil:
Looks like this news week is going to be real interesting with reactions.
Yep, it is classed as a WMD and is banned, and judging from this, they're about to get their shit kicked in by america.
2012: Around Dec 6, Syria was thought to have sarin gas mixed to be used as weapons. Syria's military is accused of having mixed chemical weapons and loading them into bombs in preparation for possible use. The US has said that the use of this weapon would be a crossing of a clear "red line". The Syrian Foreign Ministry has repeated that they do not intend to use this type of weapon.
[editline]24th December 2012[/editline] And to be honest, I don't mind if america kicks their shit in, sarin is a horrible way to go.
Well Syria, you just want to be the country with the most terrible things happening in under two to three months, do you?
Who the hell thought this was a good idea, they're going to get their shit kicked
well i guess this changes the situation quite a bit?
Specifically, sarin is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme cholinesterase.[7] Sarin acts on cholinesterase by forming a covalent bond with the particular serine residue at the active site. Fluoride is the leaving group, and the resulting phosphoester is robust but biologically inactive.[8][9] With the enzyme inhibited, acetylcholine builds up in the synapse and continues to act so that any nerve impulses are, in effect, continually transmitted. Normally, the acetylcholinesterase breaks down the acetylcholine in the synaptic cleft in order to allow the effector muscle or organ to relax. Death will usually occur as a result of asphyxia due to the inability of the muscles involved in breathing to function.
And being used in a residential area. This is one of those things that is so fucked up it just doesn't even register in my mind. How does one ultimately decide to do this?
not to be an ass but I can't help but feel a bit skeptical here
Any other sources for this? Youd think something as big as this would be covered by most major news outlets but I cant find anything.
Any other sources for this? Youd think something as big as this would be covered by most major news outlets but I cant find anything.
I'm guessing they're still waiting for confirmation. It's a big thing to claim that someone is using sarin gas on civilians.
Shit man. On Christmas Eve too.
Well that's a dick move.
here we go. The slippery slope has become a cliff and its all tumbling down into the abyss. Nothing good can come back out.
