Am I able to install steam on a external harddrive then bring it to school and be able to play steam games with out having to install anything? Im trying to show my art teacher the source sdk.
yes
i don't think so, no the files will be there but there won't be any registry entries so it won't work i might be wrong though [editline]11:56AM[/editline] you can't install steam and expect it to run but you can get a portable version of steam. http://portableapps.com/node/13668
Steam is already portable itself, if the registry entries were not found, STEAM will still run fine without it.
Yeah. I installed in on my flash drive and it works fine.
The main steam.exe is basically a deployment tool, it scans for all other dll's and files for steam. If they're not found, it auto-downloads them, and fills in the registry with their locations. Of course, don't expect it to work if your school/college has certain ports closed. it also won't work in offline mode on a different system.
