The general idea is that pop records aren't very good among music listeners. This thread is to bring a few albums FROM that era of truly brilliant pop music.

Prince - Sign O' The Times - 1987
People may be already accustomed to Purple Rain.. and in all fairness that is probably what most people go for, but this album is in a whole new league to that. This is the epitomy of his artistry, all of his creativity and masterful effort from the 80s is summed up by this music.

His music isn't too available on youtube due to copyright which is a bummer. But I definitely recommend it.
My Bloody Valentine's Loveless or Isn't Anything is about all I got that would fall under some form of pop. I don't think I could pick between the two that easily.

Eh, I wouldn't really say that shoegaze is pop music.
My vote is Tubthumber by Chumbawumba.
I seen them labeled Dream Pop. Seems a few bands that are labeled Shoegaze are also labeled Dream Pop.

That is gloriously nostalgic.
To be honest I can't single out the greatest pop record, there's too many good ones.
