Gabe Newell also confirmed in December that Valve will be releasing a Steam games console, and an early version of the so-called Steam Box has appeared at CES. Valve isn’t developing the Steam Box alone. Instead it has taken the intelligent move of teaming up with a hardware company already experienced in creating tiny PCs. That company is Xi3, and the codename for the Steam Box is fittingly “Piston.” Whether that name remains for the final product is unknown, but it makes a lot of sense to keep it. There are very few specific details about Piston, but Xi3 already has a number of tiny PCs available to purchase. They start at $499, are small enough to be picked up with a single hand, and have the option of running Linux if you desire. It is thought Piston will be based around the design of Xi3′s $999 X7A performance PC.
http://www.geek.com/articles/games/steam-box-demo-unit-codenamed-piston-appears-at-ces-2013018/ EDIT: My bad, it's late.
Looks... Interesting, I guess?
Looks cool, but we'll see, if it's too expensive it's done.
Valve, Steam, Piston. What's next?
Facepunch you are so inconsistent with yelling at people when they're late. Make up your minds!
$499 seems enormously expensive. Is minute though.
What's the point of making it so small? It's only going to make it much more expensive. I can understand not wanting it to be as big as a desktop PC, but this size just seems unnecessary.
Valve, Steam, Piston. What's next?
Pipes. GETCHU ONE [editline]8th January 2013[/editline]
$499 seems enormously expensive. Is minute though.
It's based on a computer that is $999
I'm not so sure about that design

Crap, I'm sure I didn't see the other one. My bad. Also trust Gabe to make hardware that looks like a cheese grater.
I hate how small it is, why can't we go back to PS2 Fat sizing for consoles dammit that is some really respectable I/O though

Let's face it- We're not the target audience here. The target audience is people who generally stick to only the PS3 or 360 or maybe even Wii. Among these gamers, PC gaming has a stigma of being nerdy and/or complicated and far too expensive (They think you have to spend ~$2000 to have a decent gaming rig.) By making the thing look and feel more like a living room console instead of a ricer alienware towering tower, they're probably making the deal look more attractive to these types of gamers.
Valve, Steam, Piston. What's next?
It's the industrial revolution all over again. Valve, revolutionising the world, proud developers of Steam, Piston and the now global Hatconomy.
Valve, Steam, Piston. What's next?
Dildo. If you get what I mean ;) ;)

Here's some videos about it, I think it's awesome that you can just take out parts that easily and upgrade it. I do wish it was a little bigger though, it looks like it'd overheat so easily. The price is what worries me.
