[sp] he likes it [/sp]
for a guy who prides himself often on talking about storytelling and characters, he's easily impressed by the cardboard cutouts of far cry 3
i almost prefer the complete lack of characters in far cry 2 to the shit writing in fc3
well as he said, he is a banana.

I really liken the game to Just Cause 2, if you can stomach the almost comical quality of the story and characters, there is still a huge amount of the game to enjoy. Anyways...
I do disagree with the bit he said about driving, I think they did a very good job with it. I couldn't drive in first person in a GTA game to save my life even if the roads were mostly empty, but in FC3, it works just fine.

I really have no idea what you are talking about.
The characters in FC3 were brilliantly animated and written. Especially the transition from the teenager douchebag Jason Brody is at the beginning to Rambo himself was matchless. Yahtzee pointed this out pretty well. He is right that Vaas should get a bigger role in this whole game though.
I'm also surprised he didn't mention the radio towers. Climbing on the top of them was not only dumb and monotone but also an aspect to artificially slowing down the pace of the game.

He easily sacrifices all of his principles if a different feature impressed him enough to like a game. That said, he is not a critic so who cares.

What? No it wasn't, the radio towers were great, climbing them was fun, the climbing itself felt different on every tower and it was awesome going into a new area, climbing that thing and uncovering what is in that area.

It sounds a bit too simple, though. Climb up tower without any enemies at all => instant free guns and the entire map for that area revealed.
You do know they post youtube versions right?

JC2 was written like that on purpose though (if you couldn't tell from the ridiculous missions and ending boss fight). I'm not sure that FC3 is (haven't played it but from what I've seen the VA and characters are pretty horrible).

I really disliked it. It was, in my experience at least, just a case of 'follow what the game tells you to do until you reach the top'.
If there had been multiple routes, maybe some sort of grappling-hook system or something that actually took some skill or practice to do, then it would have been great. But 'press space to climb onto this ledge' x 10 didn't really cut it for me

Sure but you gotta admit that it's th easy way out.
[QUOTE=TedStriker;38806508]Especially the transition from the teenager douchebag Jason Brody is at the beginning to Rambo himself was matchless.[/QUOTE]
matchless? it was an admirable idea to try and make a reluctant hero in an fps but it was pulled off with the finesse of a child's writing. the transition happens in literally 10 minutes, partly the flaw of trying to implement a character like that into a free-roaming game where the player has ultimate control of the "badassery" and speed at which the badassery commences
"omg how can i kill people? this is disgusting"
10 minutes later the player has complete control of the character and within an hour you've murdered literally thousands of pirates. what kind of transition is that. it's non existent
for the rest of the game jason flip-flops between characters, going from misplaced remnants of the reluctant hero (i can't remember what mission it is but jason spends the end of it laughing about how cool everything is and then he randomly rings denis and says "i'm not strong enough for this), to the serious warrior and saviour of the island (thank god for the white man to save all the brown people sat around twiddling their thumbs), to the completely contradictory sarcastic john mcclane character. within less than an hour of the story he goes from crying about stabbing a man in self defence to cackling "hahahaaaaa this is awesome!!" as he burns men alive with a flamethrower

i'm glad vaas [sp]died[/sp] before he got a chance to over-act even more

that said i thought the australian rapist dude was a cool character

its still matchless lol, name anything else that even attempts that

did you want to see a gripping tale of lost innocence and meticulous revenge as you attach people to jets and jeeps with a fucking grappling hook?
it was the game's direction, they stuck with it, and it was done very well- there is no "easy way" when delivering a story wasn't the focus from the start.
I also agree that Va'as should have had a slightly bigger role.
Maybe a parallel antagonist who is working against the islanders and taking outpost back while simultaneously you are taking them.
Va'as should have been Shadow the Jasonhog.

lol great rebuttal. here is a list of some reluctant heroes in video games:
solid snake
max payne
almost every final fantasy protagonist
nico bellic
pretty much every elder scrolls protagonist

'Jason, oh my God dude, bro, homie, for reals, damn, moneymoneymoney BOOZE Jason! Dayum, guuuuurl'
'Ayo, y'all gonna go skydiving, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO'
Mother of fuck, the characters you had to save were bad.
The best character was Sam.
[editline]13th December 2012[/editline]
Also, Jason himself is bipolar.
*Murder 40 guys in an outpost using a blunt machete, gasoline and a fucking blowtorch*
*Skin tiger*
"Ewww"

I absolutely hate Jason. He was an easily manipulated prick who kept breaking immersion by making stupid as fuck decisions against the my (The goddamn player) will and then the rest of the game constantly tried to make it seem like the decision was a good one, as if to say "Fuck you, you're wrong."
[editline]13th December 2012[/editline]
Don't get me wrong, I loved the game and most of the story, just not Jason and the rest of his friends.
So should I get this game for christmas or...?
That rosebush part had me in tears! :v:

No game ever does because it would either make for a bad gameplay to cutscene dynamic or it would be boring as fuck for the first few hours of the game.
And this game chose the bad gameplay to cutscene dynamic over ACTUALLY transitioning from a stupid teen into this badass rambo junior.
Ten minutes into the game the character is whispering "holy shit dude... holy shit man... oh shit you killed that guy.. oh god I killed this guy.." then when the player assumes complete control over the character he just runs around blowing up cars killing civilians, killing hundreds of pirates, carrying flame throwers, flying off of mountains, looting bodies, climbing radio towers, and parkour vine jumping in a mere half hour.

I have yet to watch the review, but Vaas was a beautifully written villain. It's just a shame that everyone else was relatively boring. It's like they spent all their time on Vaas and then said, "Wait, shit, we have other characters too and the game comes out in a month. Quick, write some mentor jungle man bullshit for Dennis! 'Tattoo! Tattoo! Why come you no have tattoo?'"
