Hi facepunch! I'm gonna buy a new computer, and I thought this would be the place to ask if this computer will be okay.
I don't care if i can get something better, cause anything will be better than the computer I'm writing from now (1GB Ram, 1,8 GHz, 256 mb gForce 6600, AMD Athlon-something).
So the thing I basically wanna know, will this computer run fine? Do you have any experince with a specific part working like shit or something?
It's gonna be used for handling very large .JPG's and RAW's, and ofcourse some gaming.

It looks fine for playing Crysis or GTA4 but I'm not sure if you could get something better I have no idea what DKK is.

DKK is his country's currency.

Overall it looks pretty good. Make sure you get a x64 bit OS with that.
Also, the way they have the memory set up, you can buy another set of 2x2 and stick it in there (assuming the mobo has 4 memory slots and supports 8 Gigs).

I have the same type of GPU (except for the POV part) and it's awesome for modern games.
shit's even better with an SLI rig.

More video memory = higher resolution textures for the same performance (memory is slightly slower clock I believe).
Ok thanks guys. I already ran over my 6.000 kroner budget, so is there anything I could need less of? Or something i could downgrade in order to upgrade some of the things you recommended?
Can't you salvage the DVD writer from your old computer?
no he can't, because it's a prebuilt
My old computer doesn't have a DVD writer, only DVD drive.
no he can't, because it's a prebuilt
It's not prebuilt, I choose the parts i want in it, and they put it together for me. Theres a ton of drop down menus with different parts.

See for yourself:

I do believe this site is ripping you off a bit, although I know know the prices are really high in Scandinavia. Have you considered building, it will save you lots of money.
aah
you could get the 550W corsair, it's more expensive but far less likely to die on you
swap the Q8200 for the E8400, the Q8___ aren't very good quads while the E8400 is an excellent dual
change the 9800GT to the 4770

Yeah, I mean ofcourse they are. They have to make money, too. But I'd rather pay that extra, and have the guarantee, It'd be way too risky for myself to try and build it.

So more like this?

Yeah, that looks pretty good.
Consider getting a smaller (500GB) hard drive to save a little money.
Yeah, that looks pretty good.

Nah I need space. I currently have 200 gigs of photos, and I'm constantly taking new pics so i'll be needing 750 gigs. I'd rather have too much space than too little.

It looks pretty good, though
do you already have an OS? it costs like 1000 just to add Home Premium

Besides, you can always get a 1Tb external, they're dirt cheap nowadays.

Yeah I have an OS :-)
Besides, you can always get a 1Tb external, they're dirt cheap nowadays.
I know, but external harddrives are my backup. I like to have all my photos stored 2 places, I currently have all my photos stored on an external harddrive and on my computers harddrive.
Sorry about the huge bump, but I didn't feel like making a new thread!
Anyways, it looks like I'm gonna buy the computer in a week or so, and I would like a second hand opinion on this:

E8400 instead of the E8500
Never heard of Energon, so I'd consider a better PSU.

Is the cheaper one the better one?
No, the price difference between them isn't worth the money.
[editline]06:07PM[/editline]
You could easily overclock the E8400 to match the E8500, even with stock cooling.
yeah looks good
Hard drive doesnt need to be 750 but other then that it'll run well.

Yeah, I need 750 gigs! But great.

Well, I know jack about computers, so I wouldn't know how to overclock anyways.
What about GFX cards? any of those on the list you think i should get istead? i want it to be able to run future games.
Even if you don't overclock (which is as simple as pressing buttons), the price difference between the E8400 and E8500 isn't worth it.
Hello there danish mate. Føniks computer rips you off for some money, a lot of my friends bought the same setup that I built about 1½ year ago, and I saved about 1000 dkk.
Just saying, even though they're building it for you, it's still cheaper to build it yourself. But the computer in the OP should do just fine, but you could build better if you want to.
Maybe even a small i7 build for 6430 DKK which is loads faster than the E8500 and E8400.
Oh if you're getting the GTX260 as I can see on the page, make sure it's the Core 216 version, it's faster. I don't think Føniks is going to reveal that though :v:.
I recommend you to buy individual hardware from Getmore.dk, Komplett.dk and SHG.dk (or just use EDBpriser.dk). Your choice though, we do get the stuff overpriced here in Denmark (Europe's most expensive country to live in, I tend to hear) 6430 dkk is about 1221 USD.
Blackwater, I sent you a PM.
Prismatex;
Is it hard to do? What is it exactly and where can I learn more about it?
No, it's not at all hard to overclock.
Just Google "E8400 overclocking" to get some ideas.
Not sure if there's a general overclocking guide lying around somewhere - somebody should make one.
I'm pretty sure there is.

But what exactly does it do?
It runs a chip at a speed faster than what it was sold to run at.
For example, I'm running my CPU (stock 2.83GHz) at 4.0GHz, my RAM (stock 800MHz) at 943MHz, and my video card's GPU (stock 750MHz) at 900MHz.
Oh! But does the computer run like that constant then? Does it, like, "tear" the computer faster?
