Will future tech ever come or are we just waiting for nothing?

We have been waiting since the 1950's for the development of gadgets that are cool and "exciting", but yet we haven't went far but maybe only two miles, But the real question is, are we ever gonna get to the point where we have these items or are we just gonna be the same way in 2040?
Hover cars?
Take a man from 1970, show him this thread and explain the machine and network that made it possible, and then ask him that question. For bonus points, show him on your cell phone.
We won't ever get it if everyone is waiting for someone else to do it.
Damnit why did you bring this up, I can't stop thinking about it :frog:
I think it's partially here, but we havn't noticed since the progress isn't happening over a night.

And pills that are food, and hologram-touchscreen computers and space ships?
it'll happen real slowly that you probably won't even notice a change
I'm hoping by 2040 we will be more spacefaring. Don't care about shit like hovercars and jet packs unless they'll actually be useful and not just a fad.

That.
But I spoze there's no decent robots. Or cheap ones.
Woah 7 posts in a few seconds.
Make that 8.
Who cares about flying cars? You would never be allowed to drive them yourself. Flying to work everyday would get old.

I heard that they are coming our with a sexual robot,
But The dood, by 2040 Facepunch would rule most of the world with Garrysmod 50 coming out!
where are my Robo-hookers? :colbert:
No such thing as future technology, as the future is always now.
I want my goddamn time machine!
And here comes the dumbs.
-snip-
DONUT, people are gonna rate me dumb, because they don't see where i'm coming from at a view point.
And here comes the dumbs.
Well its a dumb thread tbh.
It will happen. It's just a question of when.
whoever said that the future is now ... idiot
now is the present
lol

How's the mold under that rock of yours?
We have made unbelievable progress since the 1950's and it just keeps going.
We can't predict the future, so everything seems a disappointment, i mean whats more interesting to children, carbon nano-tubes, or hover cars?
Pretty stupid thread, of course we would feel that future never comes. Tell you what, I showed my Ipod Touch to my grandfather and let him use Google Earth with multi touch features. He probably ejaculated for the first time in 50 years.
We are in a future perhaps more advanced then what a person in the 1950s would've believed would be in 2010, it's all a matter of perspective.
Take a man from Roman times and show them modern society, and they'll probably have a heart attack.
This IS THE FUTURE!
But think of it this way: We work to develop technology. We then use that tech in order to build new tech. It's a cycle, and the more we got, the faster it is. Keep your fingers crossed and panties unbunched kids.

Every second is the future, every nanosecond is the future.
It will happen. We'll have our lasers and lying cars. Why? Because society and cultural views of the future that stick are our goals- we aim to make the things we think up. If it's at all possible, no matter how expensive, it will happen.
You have a computer that can run graphics simulations in real time that are incredibly lifelike at an affordable price.
We already have laser weapons on cruise ships and the tech is becoming smaller and more efficient.
We might have room temperature superconductors by the end of the decade.

You have a thing in your pocket that can contact anyone in the world at any given moment, and use that same device to access the internet and obtain virtually unlimited amounts of information.
If that's not exciting, I don't know what is.
