I downloaded the Windows 7 RC awhile ago and want to upgrade. The problem is that I don't have a big enough disc to put it on. Is there any way to install it without one? Can I use Daemon tools and mount it like a regular disc?
Also, would it cause problems if I upgraded from XP to 7?
You can put it onto a flash drive/portable HDD if your motherboard supports it.
No way Jóse. Buy a DVD pack. They're really cheap. If you buy rewritables (provided your burner supports it) you can even reuse them.
You can't upgrade from xp to Win7.
And if you've got a 4 gigabyte usb thumpdrive. then you can make it bootable and install win7 from it.

You can upgrade without the DVD - you literally open the ISO, and extract the contents to somewhere on your computer. Win7 by default won't upgrade from anything below build 7000 (XP's like build 5000 or something) so you need to go into <extracted ISO>/sources/cversion.cfg and change MinClient and MinServer to something lower, like 4000.
Then run <extracted ISO>/setup.exe - it can do a bunch of stuff from inside Windows, then it reboots and continues from the HDD, no DVD involved.
I wouldn't advise upgrading from XP to Win7, however. It's not supported by MS, and it could fuck something up.
You can use Daemon tools, i did it.
jesus christ just format and start again, it'll be so much better.

If you install with Daemon tools, it copies the files to the hard drive and extracts them, so that when you restart, the OS is ready to finish the install.

First off, wait a few months for the full version to come out.

Daemon tools mounts IN Windows, you cannot boot off of a virtual drive.
A DVD now is pretty cheap, you can pick up a 10 pack spindle from Big Lots for $6.
A 4gb flash drive is pretty cheap too, in that case check out vlite.
Thanks for all the feedback. I found some DVD-RW discs, but my CD Drive doesn't read them properly. The only computer I can find that does is my mom's laptop. I'm going to download Windows 7 on that and burn it, since I'm not entirely sure about installing it without a disc.

So you're going to fuck your Mom's laptop up then?

Downloading Windows 7 =/= Installing Windows 7
I saw "fuck up my installation of XP" and instantly thought of you crazy kids installing crap on parent's computers and screwing crap up.

Parents are more likely to fuck things up these days.

This works, I tried it from a W7 RC though.
