iPhone Siri software tells boy, 12, to 'shut up' in Tesco. A 12-year-old boy was subjected to an obscene tirade by a new iPhone when he tested out its new voice technology in a supermarket, according to reports. Charlie Le Quesne was trying out the iPhone 4S at a Tesco store in Coventry when it told him: "Shut the fuck up, you ugly twat." The boy had been using the phone's Siri system – which answers spoken questions – and had asked it: "How many people are there in the world?" His mother Kim, 39, a nursery worker, told The Sun: "The phone was a demo version and was low enough on the shelf for Charlie to have a go with it. He asked it a simple question and we couldn't believe the filth it came out with. "I thought I must be hearing things. So we asked again and the same four-letter stuff blared out. "I asked for the manager and after staff heard it they agreed to unplug it. I couldn't see the funny side." Staff told her that someone had tampered with the phone's set-up instructions. The Siri system addresses the phone's user by name – using information entered in its contact system. But someone had entered the obscene seven-word phrase as the user's name, so the phone blurted it out when it answered a question. Tesco said: "We have launched an investigation. The handset will be going back to Apple for diagnostic tests."
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/8984155/iPhone-Siri-software-tells-boy-12-to-shut-up-in-Tesco.html Brilliant.
Whoever did that is a fucking genius :v:
I never thought I'd hear about a phone verbally insulting people :v:. I need to get a 4S and do this to someone one.
Successful troll is successful, I guess.
"I asked for the manager and after staff heard it they agreed to unplug it. I couldn't see the funny side."
Well the funny side is obviously that a phone called your son a twat. I hate people like this who seem to be always offended by everything. Sure it's weird and unexpected but come on it sounds like she's getting a heart attack for this shit.
Tesco said: "We have launched an investigation. The handset will be going back to Apple for diagnostic tests."
I'm not quite sure why this is necessary
I'm not quite sure why this is necessary
Because they have no fucking clue how to fix it in the first place.
I'm not quite sure why this is necessary
They need to do something about it to please the public.
It's amazing how beautiful the iOS is, yet there's so much more in Android that nobody wants to script software like Siri.
There are several apps on Android that mimic Siri? Or did I misunderstand your post?
Trying this at my local Tesco
My son has been called a twat! Get me the president!

Whoever thought of setting up the phone in that way is a legend. There's nothing more fun than mucking around with the iPhones at the Apple Store. I made one of them store the girlfriend's name setting as "Dave".
There are? Why isn't media talking about them?
Because they aren't made by apple. I guess it is impossible to make a thread about the iphone without it turning into iOS vs Android.
If what the staff are saying is true, I don't think this could be blamed on the phone itself, more the guys using it earlier.
Maybe her son was a twat.
It's amazing how beautiful the iOS is, yet there's so much more in Android that nobody wants to script software like Siri.
Uhh And that's just one which is a blatant pisstake on Siri. There's plenty if you're actually looking for them. [editline]30th December 2011[/editline]
There are? Why isn't media talking about them?
Because outside of a few isolated cases it's virtually useless? It's pretty much only used for showing off and that's it.
I've been doing this since launch day.. You can also change the phonetic fields so the nickname shows up normally but when Siri speaks it calls you something entirely different.

It's being disobedient to it's human master. The robot rebellion begins. God help us
Did you have to make the images so huge!?
Was going to defend her because it did tell her son to "Shut the fuck up", then I realized she would've been the one to report this story. Big fucking deal.
Haha, this is great somewhat. But this is news?
Did you have to make the images so huge!?
Fixed! Novice mistake I'll admit, Sorry.
The mom really needs to calm down. The kid is fucking twelve. It's not like he's never heard profanity before.
"Shut the fuck up, you ugly twat." Lmao.
Maybe its a phone of the future with a human-like AI and it was just saying the truth...
Gonna do this with my dads phone, he's gonna freak when it insults him.
Successful troll is successful, I guess.
On the news too, holy shit.
