A man is behind bars after fatally shooting an Indian American engineer and injuring two others at a bar in Olathe, Kan., Feb. 22, in an alleged hate crime. Adam Purinton, a 51-year-old Navy veteran, allegedly shot and killed Srinivas Kuchibhotla, and injured Alok Madasani and Ian Grillot. Following the shooting, at roughly 7:15 p.m., Purinton fled the scene and was arrested some 80 miles away at an Applebee’s in Clinton, Mo., in the early hours of Feb. 23, according to a Kansas City Star report. According to the report citing witnesses at Austin’s Bar and Grill in Olathe, Purinton had been drinking hard, and continually exclaimed racial slurs. When a bar regular told him to stop, the man yelled “get out of my country” before he started shooting, the Star reported.
http://www.indiawest.com/news/global_indian/indian-american-engineer-fatally-shot-in-kansas-in-alleged-hate/article_cabbeea2-fa19-11e6-90fd-8be9cac28a53.html The guy that died had recently gotten married.

Firearms in bars is illegal in 46 of 50 states. This is one of them.

It is becoming huge in India. Combined with the news that almost 300,000 Indians are likely to be deported (which is something that I'm divided on personally, as are most of the population) the perception that the US isn't a safe place for minorities is growing after the Alabama incident where the cop threw down a senior citizen and paralyzed him, only for him to get off all charges. The one thing I am very proud of was the outpouring of support and the surprising dedication the Indian American community had in seeking justice for the victim. Also, with the new H1B restrictions, it's highly likely that Canada's going to continue seeing a lot of skilled labour head their way. IT appears to be in big demand in some provinces and the provinces appear to be doling out invitations like candy. This is extremely worrying.
Firearms in bars is illegal in 46 of 50 states. This is one of them.
I'm more concerned that we had enough idiots in government positions that 4 states thought guns in bars isn't a bad enough combination to be outlawed.
This is the beginning of a downward spiral for the USA, even if Trump is impeached. Why? Because Republicans have learned once and for all that Americans value security - even lies to provide an illusion of security from an obvious idiot - more than their freedoms. How else, after all, did Trump get elected? And if there's one thing Republicans excel at, it's finding some minority scapegoat to be the next boogeyman for Americans to fear, something to distract them while they're fleeced like cattle. Fear. The biggest cultural driving force in the country that was once called the land of the free and home of the brave, now with nearly half its voting population cowering in terror of everyone who looks, sounds and thinks differently. Wherein degeneracy like theocratic rule and the resurgence of white supremacy under the politically correct title of 'alt-right' has become part of the national discourse rather than being ground underneath the bootheels of the country as it deserves to be. Has nothing been learned from history? I'm not pretending that all or even most Americans think this way, because I know that most people are smarter than that. The fact remains that your country is not well. It is sick, deathly so. And no matter how long Trump remains in office, whether it's four weeks or eight years until he is kicked out, there's not going to be an easy cure. The nightmare doesn't end once his administration does; this is only the beginning.
This guy was mentally ill and was diagnosed with PTSD. I have friends that either live in that area of the city or know people that do, and rumor has it that this guy was shooting holes in his walls at night and nobody did anything. GOP just voted to ease restrictions on the mentally ill buying weapons, too. Golly.
Sushma Swaraj, the minister of External Affairs, has gotten involved and is currently expediting the body of Srinivas back to India. It's gonna suck that India's first real interaction with President Donald Trump, from one country to another, is to expedite the transfer of the body of one of our kinsmen who was shot dead by a racist. I hope it doesn't set the tone for future relations.
Judging by how he reacted to the Quebec city shooting I'm not very optimistic.
Our loss, I guess.
Not really, actually - the H1B restrictions, actually, are good because it removes the problem of wage slavery. A lot of Indian companies were seriously abusing the H1B system to send sub-standard Indian IT for a fraction of the cost of what they should be paid - severely undercutting American IT workers jobs. Now, with the recent restrictions, Indian companies will need to actually play fair and pay proper wages commesurate with their American counterparts, which will make them think twice about swamping the market with cheaper, mediocre Indian IT. Of all the things Trump has done, this actually isn't a bad thing for people. It is bad, however, for Silicon Valley because it means an effective way to hire cheap Indian minions has now ended, which means that their initial burn for good developers prior to getting funded just shot through the roof. I wouldn't be surprised if Silicon Valley slowly started sliding towards Canada or lobbying extensively to create a new loophole to get their cheap labor fix. Currently, afaik, there are only two other self-petitioned visas that allow people to legally immigrate to the US, both of which are now slammed with Indian and Chinese applications.
So downfall of US begins? Great, with global stock market crash this can only lead to very interesting times.
Can we take a moment to hail one of the survivors as a hero?
In a video released by the University of Kansas Health System, Grillot spoke about how he jumped at the shooter. “It wasn’t right, and I didn’t want the gentleman to potentially go after somebody else,” Grillot said.
Knowing the Indian community out there, the dude probably already got a shit ton of support. Hope he makes a full recovery, too.

Keeping on topic, why is the death of a single man by another very stupid racist man have anything to do with international relations?

Any other racist death could go unreported and unnoticed, but this one blew up and now people are starting to get angry. What did I miss? How is this Trump's fault?
What did I miss? How is this Trump's fault?
If you empower racists and those racists go on to do stupid shit then you are partially to blame.
If you empower racists and those racists go on to do stupid shit then you are partially to blame.
Afaik Trump did not empower racists or make murder of non-white Americans legal. He did not tell anyone to go and kill someone. I don't like defending Trump but this is a huge logical leap to go from "racist kills someone" to "racial attack happened due to Trump"
If you empower racists and those racists go on to do stupid shit then you are partially to blame.
Just like gun manufacturers are responsible for shootings and car manufacturers are responsible for vehicular manslaughter. Oh, don't forget that drug companies are personally responsible for all overdoses. Actually I don't think him even spelling it out for y'all would be enough between the Wisconsin Sikh temple shooting a few years ago, the Quebec Mosque shooting, and incidents like this all being connected to islamophobia, and an administration in place that is very apparent in its agenda towards Muslims with its affiliates similarly spreading such bigotry through media you're really going to tell me they have absolutely no part in emboldening racists and the preexisting phobic attitudes thats existed in post 9/11 America?
