So apparantly my external does not like big files like 4-6GB's...I want to convert it to NTFS file system. It came as ntfs..but my playstation 3 only reads fat32, so I had a friend change it. Now, how can I get it back to ntfs without talking to my friend again?
You'll have to reformat it and that will erase all data that's currently on it. What OS are you running?
Go into CMD and type Format <Drive> oh wait....thats the MS-DOS way...my bad. :s
go to my computer, right click on the drive and select format
Hmm...didn't know it would be that easy. Because when trying to get it to Fat32 that wouldn't work. So I figured the same. I will test this and reply...thanks. [editline]10:57PM[/editline] But will it format it back to ntfs if it is in two parts basically? because fat32 can only hold so much, it is split into two parts... One and two. One contains like 90% of the size while the other is like 10%...
Alright...now I have two parts that are both NTFS....how can I rejoin the two parts? Like it's one hd, it just splits them into two spots on the computer, E: and F:
thats the built in windows one. anyways. to join them, you need a 3rd party program.
Nope, I don't. It worked just fine. :)
Nope, I don't. It worked just fine. :)
ok, well usually its a problem.
ok, well usually its a problem.
I'm doing a full format to it, to make sure everything is off, and it's now NTFS, so it should work...just have to wait until it finishes...
thats the built in windows one. anyways. to join them, you need a 3rd party program.
No, it's not. The built-in one can make large partitions fine.
No, it's not. The built-in one can make large partitions fine.
i have seen many-a-time when using the partition manager to join two together didn't work.
Windows comes with a FAT32 to NTFS converter. If I recall correctly it's convert.exe. It doesn't erase your data either.
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>convert /? Converts FAT volumes to NTFS. CONVERT volume /FS:NTFS [/V] [/CvtArea:filename] [/NoSecurity] [/X] volume Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon), mount point, or volume name. /FS:NTFS Specifies that the volume is to be converted to NTFS. /V Specifies that Convert should be run in verbose mode. /CvtArea:filename Specifies a contiguous file in the root directory to be the place holder for NTFS system files. /NoSecurity Specifies the converted files and directories security settings to be accessible by everyone. /X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary. All opened handles to the volume would then be invalid. C:\Documents and Settings\Owner>
Errr, too late now, but thanks Panda.

Open CMD a type: (Drive): /fs:ntfs I've done it lots of times with USB's. Should work with external hdds.
