I have a AMD Radeon 7850. would I be able to put a radeon 7970 in as my primary card and the 7850 as my secondary?
It would be pointless.
i think its possible but offers really poor performance... Poor enough that it would be best to get a 2nd 7850 I have never really heard of anyone using 2 different cards for sli or crossfire
Alright, Thanks
Have a look at this. http://sites.amd.com/PublishingImages/Public/Graphic_Illustrations/WebBannerJPEG/AMD_CrossfireX_Chart_1618W.jpg It just wouldn't work at all.

So by that chart I would have to use a 7870 or another 7850 for it to boost gaming? Or would only work with the 7850?
You can't put them in crossfire, you can however use them individually - so they perform different tasks.
What happened to being able Crossfire different models? I remember that being a thing at one time, did they stop supporting it?
What happened to being able Crossfire different models? Would a 630 watt power supply by able to handle it? or would I need to upgrade?

If one card has more SPUs than another card, they'll all be used and the driver will adjust the load to the more powerful card. Will my PSU work? I don't plan to Overclock anything.
You'll need to either use molex adapters or get another power supply with 4 x PCIe power connectors. People say that molex adapters are completely safe but it's a little too sketchy for me, up to you though. [editline]6th March 2013[/editline] Oh actually the 7850 only uses a single 6 pin, I thought you had a 7870. My bad there, your power supply will be fine man.
Alright, cool thanks.
