A jury in Minnesota awarded $1.845 million in damages Tuesday to former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura, deciding that he was defamed by the late Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle who said he punched Ventura out in a bar in 2006 after the former governor said the SEALs “deserved to lose a few” in war. The news emerged after six days of deliberations in St. Paul, Minn. The award includes $500,000 in defamation damages and $1.345 million for “unjust enrichment,” according to the Star-Tribune of Minnesota. “Unjust enrichment” is typically awarded in cases in which the court finds that one person has unjustly or by chance made money at the expense of another, requiring restitution. As outlined in this Checkpoint post, the case got its start when Ventura sued Kyle, who is billed as having the most confirmed kills by a sniper in U.S. military history. Kyle wrote in his 2012 book, “American Sniper,” that he punched out a celebrity while mourning the death of Navy SEAL and future Medal of Honor recipient, Master at Arms 2nd Class Michael Monsoor. Kyle did not identify Ventura by name in the book, but said that he swung at the individual after he “started running his mouth about the war and everything and anything he could connect to it.” That included President George W. Bush and deployed SEALs, who “were doing the wrong thing, killing men and women and children and murdering,” the man said, according to Kyle’s book. Ventura said the whole episode was fabricated.
What a cunt, how do you go out and sue a widow? Ventura's reaction = OP's avatar [editline]29th July 2014[/editline] I still cant believe he was Governor
Jesse Ventura is a sack of shit.
Where's the "Disgusted" button? I feel the need to knock him out too....
While Kyle was very much in the wrong of this, it's not right to sue the wife of the deceased. Shame that people will take out their anger with Ventua's views, rather than with him.
Before Chris Kyle's death, I attended his book signing at a Barnes & Noble. There, I asked him if he actually punched Jesse Ventura. He chuckled and replied, "Yeah, yeah." Dunno if Kyle was actually telling the truth, but Ventura is a piece of shit.
Jesse has no honor. He has been ostracized from the SEAL community entirely from what i heard.
Jesse has no honor. He has been ostracized from the SEAL community entirely from what i heard.
Because he is a fucking lunatic who thinks FEMA operates death camps in the US.
This guy apparently wants to run for president in the next election.

Jesse don't care about widows. All that's important is funding his tin-foil-hat factory.
Do you really have to sue someone for millions just because they made up a story about punching you?
Because he is a fucking lunatic who thinks FEMA operates death camps in the US.
He also think radar causes tropical storms.
Do you really have to sue someone for millions just because they made up a story about punching you?
I have my doubts that he was lying about punching him.
Because he is a fucking lunatic who thinks FEMA operates death camps in the US.
I wouldn't discredit that one bit, as the evidence was there. Remember when the US locked up thousands of Japanese people because they thought they would try to be loyal to Japan? Maybe it wasn't as much as they were going to capture all of us, but rather people of middle eastern background. Either way, there are still questions left unanswered.
it's not right to sue the wife of the deceased.
if he sued him while he was alive his estate would still be out 1.8 million and it's pretty obvious that the lawyers would have been the ones to handle most of this, not the widow herself. so I don't see how this affects her in any meaningful way. chris kyle was a pathetic human being, and having a court award you a settlement for slander is one of very few solid ways to publicly refute said slander. people in genral have always been really dumb with their opinions of jesse ventura, but I still don't get why this is such an outrage.

I seriously can't tell if this is satire or not.
you are fucking nuts
this attitude is so pathetic. dismissing any obscure idea as being ''nuts'' is exactly the kind of insecure hivemind that makes mass scale conspiracies possible. whether they do or don't have prison camps, they absolutely could if they wanted to and it's all thanks to people like you.

There is zero evidence FEMA operates deathcamps.
people in genral have always been really dumb with their opinions of jesse ventura, but I still don't get why this is such an outrage.
It might be because you think his delusional conspiracy theorys hold any type of legitimacy.
No, they fucking couldn't and they don't. There is zero evidence FEMA operates deathcamps.
there's hard, indisputable evidence that they have camps which are high security and clearly designed to keep people either out or in. there's basically no evidence suggesting their intended purpose but there is evidence suggesting that it's something they want to hide.

They don't put then in fucking concentration camps, which is what the episode was suggesting.
