An obese man was shocked into losing seven stone after he identified his overweight frame on Google Street View.
Bob Mewse, 56, weighed 21 stone 3lb after years of feeding his sweet tooth with cakes and biscuits. He was so horrified a year ago when he saw himself on Google Street View – a mapping service that uses a 360-degree camera to record images – that he decided to start losing weight. Mr Mewse lost a third of his body weight after drastic changes to his diet and a strict regime of exercise. He now weighs 14 stone (89kg). The Google Street View photograph showed Mr Mewse, of Bristol, side-on opposite a filling station wearing a tent-like grey shirt. He said: "I was horrified when I saw that photo. I was massive. My belly was sticking out and I looked huge. "I'd been thinking about losing weight for some time but after seeing that picture, I knew that I actually had to do something about it. I was in such bad condition that I was unable to walk and talk at the same time. "My blood pressure was sky-high and I was getting back problems due to the excess weight I was carrying around." Mr Mewse was classed as morbidly obese. After seeing the picture, he joined a gym, Fitness First, in Longwell Green, Bristol. A personal trainer gave him an exercise programme to run in conjunction with a healthy eating plan – which replaced cakes and takeaways with fruit, salads and protein-rich foods – and he lost weight rapidly. Will McCullough, the gym's fitness manager, praised Mr Mewse for his determination and said he was an example for anyone who wanted to lose weight. He said: "He's stuck with the programme we gave him and followed it to the letter to reach his target weight, which is fantastic." Mr Mewse said: "If I can do this, anybody can – I'm just an ordinary bloke. I feel much healthier now."
Got to give him praise for effort. He followed through, and succeeded which is fantastic.
Stone is such a dumb measurement, I can't wait for people to start to abandon it forever.
Good on him.
He lost about 100 pounds (to save you a google search)
Kind of sad when you need this kind of thing in order to lose the weight. Yay time for a box fort!!!
Stone is such a dumb measurement, I can't wait for people to start to abandon it forever.
I'd rather they didn't, it's the only one I understand since everybody here uses it :(
Everyone should use Kilograms.
What is stone anyway? I know pounds are US Imperial and Kilos are Metric but what is stone considered, UK Imperial measures?
Everyone should use Kilograms.
USA will never do that. They have to be different, and change everyone else while doing so.
Kind of sad when you need this kind of thing in order to lose the weight.
The average person wouldn't give a fuck. [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] Average person that fat, I mean.
Stones and pounds suck. Everything should be in Kilograms. And this is coming from an American.
What is stone anyway? I know pounds are US Imperial and Kilos are Metric but what is stone considered, UK Imperial measures?
A stone is 14 pounds I think.
The average person wouldn't give a fuck. [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] Average person that fat, I mean.
Lol, yup.
Everyone should use Kilograms.
Don't forget the metric system. Using foots and inches is such an archaic system of measure.
A stone is 14 pounds I think.
See the above Wikipedia link from a quick Google search.
Kind of sad when you need this kind of thing in order to lose the weight.
Not really. If you don't look in a mirror you might not realize how bad it is. [editline]17th November 2010[/editline]
Stones and pounds suck. Everything should be in Kilograms. And this is coming from an American.
Also got ounces. Where i live we use kilograms for everything. But old people (usually) use pounds and ounces when they buy meat and vegetables.
Stones is good because everyone's parents use it. Over here in the UK we're taught to use kilograms and meters, but myself and most of my school friends use yards, feet and inches, aswell as stones anyway because it's what our parents use.
Stones? Which stones? (I will never ever stop doing this in my life)
Don't forget the metric system. Using foots and inches is such an archaic system of measure.

I have a 19 cm penis
Doesn't quite have the same effect.
I do prefer the metric system, but seeing as how we're never going to get around to using it to describe people's height/weight because of older people who are too lazy to learn a new system, I prefer using stone over pounds. It just sounds better, using pounds is like measuring height in only inches.
In the civilized world 7 grey rocks are about 44 kg.
The metric system does actually make sense as everything is made up by e.g. 10, 100 or 1000 of the smaller unit [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] It's way easier to measure something in centrimetres than inches. 0.02 cms 0.00787401575 inches
For more precise things, yes. I just think that the old system is easier for judging height. If someone says they are 182cm it takes me a few seconds to realise that they are about 6 foot tall. If they say they are 6 foot I know how tall they are without having to thing. I guess it's down to how we're taught at school. I can't say I know the conversion between Kg and Lbs or even Stones, never been taught it. Actually, most of our teachers use the old system, apart from our maths teachers.

It's 0.2mm or 200µm
What does losing stones have to do with anything...?
I do prefer the metric system, but seeing as how we're never going to get around to using it to describe people's height/weight because of older people who are too lazy to learn a new system, I prefer using stone over pounds.
Everyone should use Kilograms.
I hate the metric system
I hate the metric system
I hate you.

Why haven't we switched over to Metric in the UK?
stone is the dumbest shit ever why do they teach kids this retardedness.
