Curved screens work in the television department, making watching movies and gaming more immersive.
Don't know how it will work in regards to smart phones though.

Maybe this? Its a valid reason. In any case we don't know how it will look, the article did mention it could be bendy.

It will allow phone to sustain drops and falls better; due to the construction of the screen. At least with the Galaxy Note 3 edition with that screen.
Also like they showed in that old Yom(?) video, if the edges are curved you can see stuff from the side easily, like if you got new messages an any other jazz without having to pick it up in front of your face. A nice bonus, basically. And if they really take off, curved smartphone screens might also be very useful in other tech like the oculus rift for example, for even more immersion.

IIRC, a curved screen is much harder to scratch than a flat screen. More crack resistant as well.
