The RAT 9 always seemed like a pretty cool mouse to me, but after reading just how many hardware issues it's 7 series equivalent had I decided to go against it. Recently I've read a review on it that is actually thorough. In it is also a look at whether or not they fixed the hardware issues.

There have been a few issues reported with the R.A.T. 7 that Cyborg obviously took very seriously for it’s top end. The first issue, a big one, is Z-tracking. A common problem with all of the mice that use the Philips Twin-Eye sensor, such as the Razer Mamba and the MSFT Sidewinder X, is erratic cursor movement when you lift the mouse slightly off the desk. A number of YouTube videos have been made demonstrating this very concern. Suggestions for types of mouse pads – white plastic supposedly works best – are the only known fix for users. Cyborg, however, recognized the problem and sought out to fix it (perhaps the reason for the significant delays). To do this they have installed a plastic filter over the sensor. It’s unclear exactly what this filter does and how it helps with the Z-tracking issue, but please understand: it works. I often lift the mouse when I’m working or gaming, and have had no Z-tracking issues with my Logitech G9, so this was a fear with this new mouse. After a day of use and many tests, I can’t replicate the problem. Z-tracking is no longer an issue.
The second main concern is a wobble of the mouse. When people started getting their hands on the R.A.T. 7, a problem with the mouse wobbling on it’s feet became apparent, even with very little pressure. If you pushed down on the front left corner it was clear that the bottom was uneven, like a table with one short leg. A quick fix by tightening the thumb rest all the way down would help, but it still did not eliminate the wobble completely. Again, it looks like Cyborg answered the call. Despite deliberate attempts, I cannot make this mouse wobble even slightly.
The final big issue was cursor drift. A few videos were posted demonstrating a drift in the cursor when clicking the left mouse repeatedly. A firmware issue perhaps, the unanticipated movement was significant enough that it would clearly become a problem when gaming – suddenly that SCV would no longer be under your cursor, costing you valuable seconds. One more problem, one more problem fixed. Again, I cannot replicate the issue with this mouse.
Cyborg seems to have taken the criticism very seriously, and it appears they have addressed all of the issues people were reporting with the R.A.T. 9’s wired brother. This mouse is a performer, standing up to every test I put it through. Zero lag, zero latency and fantastic precision. Simply put, this mouse is the best performing wireless mouse I’ve ever used. In other words the RAT 9 might actually be a good buy :buddy:
It's still expensive as fuck though, then again you can't look at new generation gaming mice with a tight budget in mind.
Does anyone here actually own it? What do you think about it?
Aren't they made by Mad Catz?
I don't trust that brand...
The whole design looks like one huge gimmick.
Biggest part of the price is guaranteed to be "novelty", not quality of the thing.
It's $129 on Amazon.
The MX518 is $36, the G500 is $55, the G9x is $65, and the Logitech MX Performance Mouse is $75.
The G700 is plagued by tracking issues.
get a logitech g700

That was my concern as well. Apparently it's licensed by Mad Catz but actually made by Saitek, who are generally known for not sucking.

The changing shape is being called a gimmick just like changing weights were.
Even with all of that though, it's still expensive as hell.
Mx518 is the best all-round mouse, the end.
it's a serviceable mouse, not worth the cost though.
I have a friend who owns this, it looks like a stealth fighter about to take off!
However, I absolutely swear by Logitech products and recommend them every time. The one time I had a problem with my G7, they had a replacement on its way to my house in less than 24 hours.
Holy shit does it fucking blaze out rockets?
I have a 7 and it's fucking incredible.

Logitech's customer support is awesome, I don't think I've heard of any other company that would send two G500's for one broken G5.
Listen to the people that have owned them, not the people that haven't. That is all I can think of saying..
I've got a razer diamondback, the older clear one. everyone always hates razer, 99% of them have never even used razer.

I fucking love my 3500dpi Deathadder, I just wish they added a bit more weight to it.
I have the RAT 5 and I would happily recommend it to anyone. Very comfortable to use and looks fantastic. Length & Width adjustment is a very useful feature to ensure it fits perfectly in your hand, it's not exactly a gimmick. Only problem I have with it is the god awful software they give you for setting up macros etc.

I used to have a Razer mouse (can't remember the model) and the scroll wheels broke after around 1 year.
Also a bad solder in the left mouse button cause it to unintentionally doubleclick and make it tricky to drag stuff with it
I had a razer krait that made my laptop reset itself at random :v: (more my laptops fault though)
it also died after half a year, the scroll wheel got loose and the mouse buttons got all flimsy.
DON'T FUCKING BUY THIS. SERIOUSLY.
I fucking set this up for my hand (claw grip) and somehow my pinky would be too heavy and weigh down the side (i hate it when my pinky touches the desk and moves with it, so I used the pinky holding grip) and it raises my mouse.
I've also noticed if I pick up my mouse and place it back down right away, the mouse moves down and to the right like crazy.
It does adjust really well, but I didn't really like it.
RAT7, BTW.
My G500 is WAY better than that.
according to the review, they fixed like all those problems in the rat 9

Good job not reading the thread. The whole reason I even made it was because they fixed all of those hardware issues.
Any of these mice are well worth the price
Mx518 / G500 / StealSeries XAI

If only we were talking about the Rat 7, then you'd be relevant.
If you desperately need wireless, the Sidewinder X8 is only $40 and free shipping on Newegg right now.
I never liked Sidewinder mice. Mainly the grip and button layout, but if the wireless performance is good then it's a good alternative for other people.
Haven't used it in a game, but I did feel it and it felt damn good in the hand that's for sure, though at that price, I went with a Kone+ instead (which felt even better in the hand).
