WASHINGTON — A recent satellite image appears to show North Korea is restarting a plutonium reactor, in a move that could raise renewed international alarm over its nuclear weapons program, a U.S. research institute said Wednesday...
"The reactor restart fits a pattern of continued expansion of North Korea's WMD programs short of conducting outright nuclear and missile tests," said Joel Wit, a former State Department official and editor of 38 North. WMD stands for weapons of mass destruction.
"An operating reactor will enable Pyongyang to renew the production of plutonium, albeit on a small scale, that will enable it to slowly expand its stockpile of nuclear bombs," he said.
But despite the easing tensions, analysis of recent commercial satellite photos also shows Pyongyang may also be doubling the size of its uranium enrichment plant — a potential, second source of fissile material for nuclear weapons — and expanding its main rocket launch site, located on its west coast near China.

I guess it's that time of the year again...
Damn it! We should have listened to Obama! He warned us! Now that the US has displayed weakness everyone is gonna make weapons! Oh no!
I guess it's that time of the year again...
Its a shame that SH was purged of North Korea supporters.
I guess it's that time of the year again...
more like that time of season/month
Always amazes me how america gets to act so shocked at north korea wanting the bomb, when america has detonated hundreds of them and even dropped them on populated cities along with having thousands in stockpiles.

It doesn't amaze me at all. America is pretty much king of the "only room for one sheriff in this town" mentality.
Hurray!
Wait, no, the other one...
Uhhg.
Always amazes me how america gets to act so shocked at north korea wanting the bomb, when america has detonated hundreds of them and even dropped them on populated cities along with having thousands in stockpiles.
Because we aren't in some nebulous vacuum ignorant of context and conditions.
I guess it's that time of the year again...
Ahhh yes.
Nothing quite like the annual Nork Sabre-Rattle.
It doesn't amaze me at all. America is pretty much king of the "only room for one sheriff in this town" mentality.
On the other hand you don't give a volatile rogue fucking state a weapon capable of flattening a city.
Hey, does Sobotnik still have that toxx going?
Sobotnik, i summon thee.
Then again, you're gonna show up anyway aren't you?
Meh, business as usual. A cycle of concessions to provocations stretching back all the way to the truce. I don't quite understand how people are still surprised by it, or even scared by it.
Always amazes me how america gets to act so shocked at north korea wanting the bomb, when america has detonated hundreds of them and even dropped them on populated cities along with having thousands in stockpiles.
Dropped them on populated cities during world war 2, close to 70 years ago.
No media, I'm not getting into another fear-mongering cycle about North Korea.
Hey isn't that one NK fanboy Rayhalo unbanned by now ?
I hope he goes by and enlightens us once more.
It's funny because I couldn't remember his name so I just searched for the word Bourgeois in SH and the thread he got banned in was the first to show up.
I remember at one point sh was just nk threads. Good times
Who cares anyway, America has shown the past 2 weeks that all it does is issue empty threats.
Always amazes me how america gets to act so shocked at north korea wanting the bomb, when america has detonated hundreds of them and even dropped them on populated cities along with having thousands in stockpiles.
Because America has been lead by the same person since the '40s and everyone here loves war.
It doesn't amaze me at all. America is pretty much king of the "only room for one sheriff in this town" mentality.
Yes, it is absolutely a great idea to let a small nation run by a tiny man with anger management issues, a serious inferiority complex, and a serious desire to have a bigger nuclear penis than the rest of the world combined get a weapon of mass destruction. You are SO smart; please teach me your wisdom.

He made a toxx? Proof or didn't happen.

Because America is (despite what people think) a reasonable country (now anyway) that is not going to nuke someone or sell said nukes to someone who might want to detonate it a city.
North Korea on the other hand is quite unpredictable and could do those things.
So this diplomacy was only a stall while NK got their diabolical nuclear plan together?

and Dennis Rodman gave Kim his sperm so they may create mixed breed 6ft 5" korean soldiers?
The plot deepens..

1. "News"- stories about satellite images of the DPRK have been wrong before. Earlier this year a satellite image of a collective farm was touted as an image of a "death camp".
2. The only "evidence" cited to back up the claim that the plant is operational, is the presence of steam coming from a building.
3. Even if the plant is operational, there is nothing to suggest that it is being used for anything more then power-generation.
Yes, it is absolutely a great idea to let a small nation run by a tiny man with anger management issues, a serious inferiority complex
The DPRK is governed by a combination of both Peoples Assemblies (local representation) and the Supreme Peoples Assembly (National Representation).
The Workers party currently holds a majority in the SPA.
Kim Jong-un is simply the First Secretary of the Workers Party of Korea.
North Korea on the other hand is quite unpredictable and could do those things.
The only reason that the DPRK has proliferated nuclear arms in the past, is to have some level of assurance that the USA wont wage another war of imperialist aggression upon it.
Also the idea that the DPRK would just randomly launch a nuclear attack upon a nation is ridiculous.
I'm waiting for the day where Best Korea fires a nuke after a lot of threats against another nation only for it to crash down and explode on the landing pad like the Russian Rocket.
He made a toxx? Proof or didn't happen.
Yeah last time North Korea was making a fuss he said he'll eat his own hair if they invade South Korea. Surprise surprise North Korea was just doing it's standard "Give us stuff and/or we'll threaten you!" routine and nothing happened.

Holy shit I can't believe there are actually apologists for one of the worst regimes in human history
ill shave my head on a livestream if NK does anything
edit; if they actually launch a nuclear weapon towards someone or attempt to attack someone with a nuclear weapon
war of imperialist aggression upon it.
Seriously
Considering the USSR had their hand up NK's arse for that war
Always amazes me how america gets to act so shocked at north korea wanting the bomb, when america has detonated hundreds of them and even dropped them on populated cities along with having thousands in stockpiles.
let's criticize america and completely ignore the context and make it seem like the one time atomic bombs were used against people, ever, happens on a regular basis and make it sound like america just kills people for fun, when killing people for fun is pretty fucking close to what north korea does, not to mention that them having a bomb means that you can say goodbye to the ability of any country to ever be able to change the massive violations of human rights there because if we ever tried seoul would just be turned into glass.
I'm getting real tired of these "america is dumb lool" posts.
ill punch myself in the dick repeatedly if NK have the balls to invade SK
why would they invade? They could kill far more people with a single nuke.
[editline]12th September 2013[/editline]
Think about this. The little boy or the fat man over the center of tokyo would kill what, like 10 million people?
Those were the first nukes developed.
The only thing we can be glad of is that NK can't test them and thus is severely limited in their ability to make large nukes.
