http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-24078339
An Indian court has sentenced four men to death for the gang rape and murder of a student in the capital Delhi, a case which led to violent protests across India and new laws against rape. Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur and Pawan Gupta were found guilty on all counts earlier this week. Judge Yogesh Khanna said the case fell in the "rarest of rare category", rejecting pleas for a lighter sentence.
While this is most definitely an extreme punishment, it's far closer to justice than what U.S. judges have been deciding on.

so according to Facepunch the government has the right to torture and kill its citizens, but not to monitor them [editline]13th September[/editline] "The government has too much power. Maybe if we give them control over life and death they'll start listening to us!"
Yeah torturing people to confess is real justice.
Allowing a rapist to serve only 30 days in jail is any better? Especially when the victim committed suicide as a result? Can't forget about this: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1307030
Yeah torturing people to confess is real justice.
You mean you're going to go by the word of their lawyer and that alone, despite the fact that there's no actual proof or evidence to back it up? You realise that those men were well and truly fucked before they even set foot in that courtroom? Hell, their defense lawyers even tried a plea that said they were too drunk to know what they were doing (aka yanking out someones innards) [t]http://i.imgur.com/8e2wYNB.jpg[/t] to get them off. They did all they could, and were getting desperate - this was the only tactic left in the playbook. They gave them the death penalty under the "rarest of the rare" clause of the new law passed this January. They had an option to not do it if the judges felt this didn't qualify, but apparently they did.

Should've kept their dick in their pants.
heed the "no, please" now, because they won't heed your "no, please" later.
fuck well its been good guys but its time for me to serve my punishment farewell
Okay listen They all deserved this It was premeditated, cruel, and not just rape. They fucking ripped out her intestines by shoving an iron pipe through her anus and pulling it out.
A doctor at the hospital later said that the "rod was inserted into her and it was pulled out with so much force that the act brought out her intestines also. That is probably the only thing that explains such severe damage to her intestines.”[19]
Don't get me wrong, they should get punished harshly but why stoop down that low to their level? Killing is so wrong that we kill people who kill people because killing people is wrong.

[editline]13th September[/editline] i wonder how many people who support the death penalty also want the government to impose less on its citizens
They're probably making an example out of them. People who do shit like this are too fucked up in the head to possibly reform. If I was in their shoes I would be too sickened by my actions that I would probably accept death as a way out. These fuckers are "scared" of death.... fucking pussies. They need to accept their punishment like the scum that they are.
fuck well its been good guys but its time for me to serve my punishment farewell
rule 22
What they did was utterly barbaric but I still don't believe in the death penalty. It's good that the government is trying to deter this kind of shit with harsh punishments but it's like trying to renovate a house using only a sledgehammer
Does the death penalty even deter crime?
I thought a majority of Facepunch was against the death penalty? Or was I wrong?
Does the death penalty even deter crime?
To a very small extent probably but the rape epidemic in india is a deep seated cultural issue; you've got to actually change attitudes and rehabilitate rather than just kill people until it stops. That said, I'm genuinely repulsed at what they did and while I've got to stick to my principles I can hardly say I'm sorry that they're going to hang.
Great now 4 more people will be dead. Justice! I'm sure you all feel better now that more people will die. Think about that in your morbid minds next time. You feel good when people die.

You feel good when people die.
I don't think that death penalty supporters feel good when people die, it's just that it's their idea of justice because they're either too lazy or unable to think beyond an instinctive impulse to get some kind of vengance - therefore they're just celebrating getting their idea of justice
You feel good when people die.
After brutally raping and barbarically assaulting an innocent woman? To be honest, yes.

I know video games aren't particularly appropriate to bring up in a discussion like this but this reminds me of the "Killing monsters" part of the Witcher 3 trailer. There is some truth in killing people who have done the most abhorring things, is what I'm getting at. I know FP's views on this but I just can't help to think that some people really shouldn't be alive.
I thought a majority of Facepunch was against the death penalty? Or was I wrong?
Except when its for the people we don't like

shoulda gotten life in prison w/o parole, living the rest of their lives in a massive shit hole being beaten every day, fuck I rather get shot then spend my life in a jail.
you seem to not realize how badly the government is overstepping its bounds by killing people, and that's far more important than any supposedly just punishment could ever be. how can you possibly oppose PRISM but not this? [editline]13th September[/editline] i wonder how many people who support the death penalty also want the government to impose less on its citizens
Quit flipping your engorged nips over a pack of animals being put down. As far as I'm concerned, and as far as any half-decent citizen should be concerned, they aren't humans any more, they're fucking walking sacks of scum. There is no excuse for doing that to someone, and there is no punishment that fits but death. They ended her life; they should have theirs ended, full stop, end of the story. They shouldn't be given jail terms, both because it would be letting them get away with it and because they would probably get ripped apart en route, or else while IN jail. I'm sure they ignored her pleas, so it's quite fitting that their own pleas should be ignored.
'i'm going to weigh in on a death penalty verdict on a brutal and fatal gang rape by quoting a game trailer'
You know exactly what I'm saying. Don't think you're being cheeky, because I explicitly said I know it wasn't appropriate and that it merely reminded me of the quote.
