US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern met at the ASEAN Summit, but apparently he didn't know she was a world leader.
Comedian Tom Sainsbury, best known for his Snapchat impersonations of politicians, spoke to Ryan Bridge on RadioLIVE about his conversation with Ms Ardern on Thursday night.
He said that while the two were backstage, he asked Ms Ardern about her time at the ASEAN Summit and, most importantly, what it was like to meet Mr Trump.
"I'm not sure if I should be saying this, but she said that Donald Trump was confused for a good amount of time, thinking that she was Justin Trudeau's wife."
Mr Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada, is married to former television host and fellow Canadian Sophie Grégoire Trudeau.
Mr Sainsbury added that Mr Trump did eventually "work out" who Ms Ardern was.
Later on at the summit the two leaders were involved in a playful conversation in which Mr Trump mentioned Ms Ardern "caused a lot of upset in her country" when she was elected Prime Minister. She retorted that "no one marched when I was elected".
Mr Sainsbury said Ms Ardern also told him Mr Trump was "not as orange in real life".
I wonder how high Justin had to get to deal with Trump's shit.
Hasn't trump met Trudeaus wife before?

Ouch.

Damn, Daniel.
just a healthy dose of casual sexism
Every single day he is in office he continues to embarrass this country.

???
How does him confusing a female person as the wife of another person amount to sexism? It's only stupidity here as far as I see.

In a summit full of world leaders his first thought is to assume she is not a leader but the wife of one. Come on

He automatically assumed she had to be there because she was family, not a world leader herself
I wouldn’t necessarily call it sexist if it was coming from anybody else, though; it’s just pretty obvious what he was thinking and why in Trump’s case

Seeing a woman and instantly assuming she has to be there in a supporting role and not out of the importance of her position? You know what I'm getting at. Though I wouldn't be as quick to assume that if it wasn't Trump, who is basically an encyclopedia on how not to treat women
With that said, Ardern herself denied the misunderstanding
stuff like this is why I will never get the whole "okay he might still be Trump but now he's the president so you must all obey and respect him, because he's president and presidents get respect" thing that Trump fanboys do.
You might as well have elected a 12 year old boy. To the rest of the world Trump is a joke that has worn out it's welcome.
If a 12 year old boy became president, should other world leaders be expected to treat a little kid like he's even remotely on even standing with them? collectively humour him and pretend that he has anything worthwhile to contribute?
Kudos to her for that sick burn.

Oh, didn't think of it that way...
On 21 January, Ardern participated in the 2017 Women's March, a worldwide protest in opposition to Donald Trump, the newly-inaugurated President of the United States.
ouch

How could the implication be less obvious?

I'm just an oblivious idiot

Most 12 year olds have a conscience and are willing to apologize occasionally.
If I had to choose between speaking to Donald or Barron Trump at a world summit it's be a pretty easy choice.
NZ Prime Minister seems pretty cool
