• 2 Billion Year Old Water Found
A team of University of Toronto geoscientists has made a discovery that could lead to a new understanding of ancient life on Earth and other planets: two billion-year-old water, believed to be the oldest H2O ever found, in a mine in Timmins, Ont. "Everything about the water is brand new. We are seeing signals in all isotopes that we've identified so far that we've never seen anywhere else."
http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/toronto/water-billion-timmins-oldest-1.3898740 "2 billion-year-old water won't kill you, but would taste 'absolutely disgusting'"
Won't kill me huh? Bottoms up! seriously I'd try the shit outta that water, just for the novelty alone.
Huh, weird to think that the water didn't dry out or got replenished by a water source. But i doubt that water is actually 2 billion years old.
"Everything about the water is brand new." Except for its age. :v:
The water is up to eight times saltier than seawater gross [editline]16th December 2016[/editline]
But i doubt that water is actually 2 billion years old.
why's that
Clone it. [editline]16th December 2016[/editline] :v:
why's that
he knows more than the water scientists
why's that
Think about it, it must've been dried out and replenished at some point or had some sort of cycle. I'd say there's a snowballs chance in hell that the water kept perfect balance with moisture and humidity for billion of years. But then again, mother nature loves to suprise us from time to time.
he knows more than the water scientists
When i say 'doubt', i dont mean that i know better than the actual scientists. I just doubt that the water is that old.
Think about it, it must've been dried out and replenished at some point.
why do you think that evaporation won't occur if there is nothing to cause the evaporation
Evian is gonna start bottling it and sell it in supermarkets
reminder just in case you skipped the article it's 3km below ground in a cave. [editline]16th December 2016[/editline] automerge

That's how natural ground water reservoirs come to be.
even if it did evaporate itd have nowhere to go since it cant permeate the crust of the pocket its in which is why its been sitting there for 2 billion years more likely that its been just above the freezing point for the majority of its time but nah, move over water scientists, eskillv2 is an expert, he casts doubt on your claims (which means he thinks they are false)
Evian is gonna start bottling it and sell it in supermarkets
Throw some gold flakes in it, call it artisan and charge people $75,000/750mL
This is a bullshit title, most if not all water on earth is billions of years old.
but nah, move over water scientists, eskillv2 is an expert, he casts doubt on your claims (which means he thinks they are false)
Can you show me where i said that i'm an expert? If not, then you pull your head out of your ass and stop being an arrogant douchebag.
This is a bullshit title, most if not all water on earth is billions of years old.
I just made new water in the toilet today. Explain that, scientists.
Can you show me where i said that i'm an expert? If not, then you pull your head out of your ass and stop being an arrogant douchebag.
the only arrogant douchebag is the one asserting that scientists are wrong because he doubts something he has no knowledge about
the only arrogant douchebag is the one asserting that scientists are wrong because he doubts something he has no knowledge about
Uh, he didn't assert himself about anything that I can see. You guys are kinda jumping down his throat because he admitted he had doubt. Its not like he said "lol dumbass scientists don't know about evaporation lmao".

The water is 2 billion years old, as in, it has been trapped there for 2 billion years. How did they measure it? It says so right in the article:
Warr said helium, argon, neon, krypton and xenon were found in the water. Those gases accumulate over time in the fluid trapped in rock fractures. Calculating how much of each gas has accumulated in the water helped the researchers figure out its age. "If water has been down there for up to two billion years, it can tell us something about the atmosphere at the time, or the state of the Earth, which previously we've not been able to get much insight into,"

the only arrogant douchebag is the one asserting that scientists are wrong because he doubts something he has no knowledge about
I might have worded my post wrong, but not once did i assert that the scientist are wrong. I did not say that i knew better than the scientist, you wrote that. Honestly I'm disinterested in the points any of you are making. I care about the science here and the scientists at work. They don't need armchair opinions nor armchair defenders. Doubt it if you want, but these are actual experts with far more experience and knowledge than you and I combined.
if a scientist makes a claim and you respond "lol doubt it" it means you think he's wrong
You right, i shouldn't have voiced my opinion and wasted your time, it's obvious that you know better no matter who or what.
You right, i shouldn't have voiced my opinion and wasted your time, it's obvious that you know better no matter who or what.
are you a hydrologist? to keep this quick i'll answer for you no, you are not what, then, qualifies you to look at a picture of water that hydrologists have measured to be 2 billion years old and go "yeah doubt it heh"
imagine that water was there before hl2 came out
Stop jumping down Eskill's throat, there's nothing wrong with skepticism. He said what he said very reasonably, no need to assume he was being malicious, no need to be a dick to him.
I trust these scientists as much as most of you guys in this thread, but being that aggressive to someone casting doubt is just odd. He wasn't being a dick about it or anything.
