At the time FireWire was so amazing, too. Real shame this all happened to it.
At least Intel is dropping the royalty fee for Thunderbolt so we don't get a repeat
I always wondered what had happened to it. I remember hearing all the time about how it was going to be the next big thing.

I remember how fucking awesome it was running TCP/IP over firewire. You could plug two machines together and boom, 400mbit network connection. Add a six port hub form Beklin and blammo, you could network all the machines in the room. USB still can't do that.
Firewire daisy chaining was the [I]shit[/I]. Now we have Thunderbolt at least which we can do a lot of the stuff people liked in Firewire, I just hope it starts existing in more than Macbooks.
