[release]CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand – The powerful earthquake that smashed buildings, cracked roads and twisted rail lines around the New Zealand city of Christchurch also ripped a new fault line in the Earth's surface, a geologist said Sunday.
At least 500 buildings, including 90 in the downtown area, have been designated as destroyed by the 7.1-magnitude quake that struck at 4:35 a.m. Saturday near the South Island city of 400,000 people. Most other buildings sustained only minor damage.[/release]
Only two serious injuries were reported from the quake as chimneys and walls of older buildings were reduced to rubble and crumbled to the ground. Prime Minister John Key said it was a miracle no one was killed.
Earth shattering news.
Oh Christ, he shall rise!
News like this cracks me up.
Rate me funny if you're gay.
This must've hit hard.
I think the gates of hell are opening at New Zealand.
Okay, this is new.
Isn't it amazing how nobody dies when a massive earthquake hits a country with proper building codes.
And yet it's like a holocaust in poor countries
Looks like New Zealand has faulty buildings
I have a friend who lives in New Zealand :(
Thankfully it didn't kill anyone...
I don't think I feel so safe living in Auckland now. Who knows what might happen next...

So should New Zealand be worried, or should everyone be worried?
I predict incoming boxes for asking a simple question.

And suddenly, everything went down under.
Must've caused quite a rumble.
Mordor.
I live in Auckland, and the shit there looks terrible. Good thing nobody died though.

No it's a new crack in the earths CRUSTY CRUST. Soon the crust is gonna crack up more, then pieces will sink and melt... Then we go to hell, literally.
7.1 earthquake in nz = 0 deaths
7.0 earthquake in haiti = 230000 deaths
and whoever said infrastructure wasn't important?
Jesus, a new fault?
Also, i have a childhood friend who lives in new zealand, i think he is in north island though :ohdear:
Looks like the earth ripped itself a new one.
So no one died just because the buildings were built with more sense than in developing nations?
That's actually amazing.
what a ripping discovery
News like this always seems to make a rumble.
Ok, so how will the new fault effect the continental drift this time?
