Ok so I have a guitar bass and drum kit. I want to play tracks to a song and record them onto my pc then mix them all together and form a song. What is some good software that can do that and clean up a bit of the raw sound.
You need an audio interface, a line in jack just isn't good enough (don't rely on software to clean shit up). Here's a popular one: http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Track-Mobile-Interface-Preamps/dp/B000BD31ZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1273917191&sr=8-1
To record, use Audacity.
And for the love of god instruments.
There has to be another way. I'm not looking to do it really professional quality this is just a small project I'm working on and I don't have 150 bucks to buy that.

Then you'll get seriously mediocre sound quality. Really depends on your soundcard - guitar -> my PC => a lot of noise, whereas guitar -> my MacBook Pro => pretty clean sound.
Yeah, There's really no way around some initial costs.
Yu can record thought a line6 pod and gearbox, I have one great quality and easy way of connecting guitars to a pc, http://line6.com/podstudiogx/ I have something like that
