• I helped an old guy clean out his garage and he gave me 460$

I was on my way back from getting allergy medication for my mom, normally it's pretty dull around here but on my way back home I saw a little old guy heaving a bag down his driveway. I don't make a habit of bothering people but I felt sorta..bad, I saw that he had a stack of bags and I only assumed that he was putting them all out. I pulled over to ask if he needed help, which he gladly accepted. After going home (which was like a block away), I drove back with my work gloves and went to work. He offered to pay me 20$ an hour to help him (I'm unemployed, which would mean I'm making 20$ more than usual) He turned out to be a pretty chill guy, his name was Grusen Hollen, a German-born jeweler with an awesome thick accent that came to the US in the late 50's. He told me about when he was in Germany, he was a teenager when WWII was raging and how he fled to Switzerland and while he was there, he began to learn about jewelry so he could get a job post-war, how to make and sell it. Eventually he immigrated to New York, managed a jewelry and watch shop until the 70's when his ex-wife took his business. He moved to Kansas in the 80's, bought the house he's currently living in and retired, now he teaches precious-metal working (How to melt and mold rings and stuff). Anyway, I spent a better part of the afternoon hauling bags, bins and even some furniture to the curb. I don't mind it, I'm weird in the way that I like to hear old people tell stories. After I was done he went in to get some money. I spent 4 hours there, so I expected to get about 80$. Instead, he hands me a brown paper bag, smiles, wishes me luck and walks back inside. Inside was a stack of 20's, totaling 460$. I was stunned, and a bit confused. I'm not really sure what to do with it to be honest. Yeah the easy thing would be to keep it but I don't feel right for taking nearly 500$ from Anyway, there's the stack I got. They're all used bills, each one looks real. Neat.
I don't see why you feel uncomfortable taking it. He obviously felt like you were a nice kid and wanted to really thank you for helping him out. It was a gift, he wants you to have it.
Do you have a car? Save up!
He was probably staring at your ass the whole time, or video taping you.
He was probably staring at your ass the whole time, or video taping you.
I'd feel flattered then!
Maybe the fellow is senile and totally miscounted v:v:v
Lucky bastard, you're a winner.
Do you have a car? Save up!
No car of my own. I share with my older sister. She works nights and sleeps during the day so it works out fine for me. Plus, my insurance is lower because I'm an 'infrequent drivers'. I only pay 36$ a month and not 66
Maybe the fellow is senile and totally miscounted v:v:v
Thats why I feel bad, I don't want to take some little old man's retirement money :(
Buy Gold Membership and a gay title for Garry.
the old man obviously has racks on racks, so take his money and don't bitch about it.

Awesome. Can I borrow 20 bucks?
Spending time, OP.
If you want to, spend it on video games or a pc upgrade the only reasonable thing to do [sp]wait for a steam sale. you can get around 60 games on a non-sale, but about 120 on a steam sale[/sp]
Elderly people are so neat to hang out with. They always have amazing stories about their lives...OP got to hear neat stories about living during WWII and got PAID. You lucky motherfucker, you.
Ask him if he needs any more help sometime, he's probably really lonely. Also you probably helped him move his ex wife's chopped up body to the street. Also ask him to teach you how to identify jewelry and what's worth what. That would be a really really cool and useful thing to know.
-snip,automerge broke you fagets-
Maybe it's counterfeit and he was looking for a convenient way to get rid of it.
You could visit his house and double check, might seem odd but he'll either not give a shit cause he is old or appreciate that you cared to double check. If your conscience is bothering you about this, I doubt you're going to be able to actually spend the money till you get to the bottom of this.
did you bury any corpses for him
If he owned a jewelry store in NYC, he's likely pretty well off even if his ex-wife took half. I can't say what it's like from experience, but I imagine that when I'm older with no children living with me, a neighbor offering me help with a big chore would seem like a godsend. It's likely he just was really thankful and decided to give you a big reward for being a good person. Don't feel bad about taking the money, I doubt very much that he feels bad about giving it to you. Like StormHammer said though, if you really do feel like it could have been a mistake on his part, ask him. I'm sure he won't be offended.
Maybe he thought you were a prostitute. He gave you the money, and you were like "Thanks!" and walked off, so maybe he thought you were going to pucker up or something. Maybe he's still waiting now. Like a perverted Seymour.
Lucky.
Maybe it's like that episode of Malcolm in the Middle and you just helped that old guy rob the house.
