Okay, so the trailer seems to make it look like a TPS, but other than that it was pretty awesome.
I'm loving the BBC News style reporter voiceover. :v:

I'll tell you what it could do without though - the stupid gravelly stereotypical voice over.

Autobots, roll out.
Are you really stuck with only using four squad members in combat or something?
Urgh. That cartoony vibe really doesn't work as well as I had thought it would. The soldiers kinda look...silly. It is hard to take them seriously.
Still looking forward to it, but I fear that the atmosphere of the original is no longer present.
the soundtrack sounds like tron legacy + inception
That trailer was quite spectacular, although I do not like the looks of the soldiers. Anyway I am still following this, looks promising enough.
Even if it turns out to be complete shit or painfully mediocre (the more likely event) there's still Xenonauts.
The art style is a bit odd but I'll live, xcom 1 doesn't really have an artstyle, it goes all over the place.
Not to mention how ridiculous some characters were in xcom1. Guile hair anyone?

To build upon the above post-XCOM was always cartoony. Hell, one of the features noted in the demo was "a popular "Manga" look. X-COM has always looked stylized. It's just that it's more after GIJOE: Resolute rather than a dark seinen.
X-COM has always been cartoony, but it's also always had that dark kinda detail to it in the background, it attempts to avoid using flat colours and technicolour is reserved for the UI. Something about the new game just throws that off somehow.
It feels too "Wind Waker" when it should be "Twilight Princess" is what I'm trying to say.

Six, and I'm perfectly okay with that on principle. Moving twelve squadmembers one after the other was a pain in the ass.

Even though 'Wind Waker' was a supurb direction compared to 'Twilight Princess'.
What happened to it being set in the 50's like in the E3 2010 trailer, I liked it that way! Or is "Enemy Unknown" going to be a separate title?

X-COM by 2K Marin is the one you speak of.
Don't mention in X-COM threads or anything related to it because people get a stiffy to attack people for it.

I might make a GMOD pose of that once I've finished a campaign or two and someone's ported the models.

Except Wind Waker was an excellent choice of style for a game like one in the LoZ series, because the style has always been very very cartoony. When you play UFO Defense, the combination of horror-like suspenseful music and relatively detailed set of terrain tiles gives a feeling of horror. Somehow I just don't get that from the new version, it feels more like I'm watching videos of DOTA 2 than a spiritual sequel to XCOM. I guess I've always felt that a 3D XCOM would look different.
There is nothing wrong with the style. The style doesn't really matter when you are getting ripped apart by a chrysalid.
