It will probably be at 900p (aka 720p on steroids) at 30 FPS like most next gen console games. It's funny how the "next generation" can't even play games in full HD yet.
There was people who actually thought consoles could handle it? Let's be real, half of AAA titles have locked 30fps and under 1080p (Xbone). Besides Wither 3 looks better than anything on consoles so far.
If they can do 60FPS at 720p why not give people the choice between that or 30FPS at 1080p?

they can, all the consoles for the past few gens could do it
it's just they valued ~shiny grafix~ instead of performance and no one wants to take the hit and slow on the ~grafics so real~ for one generation so that fps can catch up because people will bitch online about LAST GEN GRAPHICS BLUNDER OF THE CENTURY!!! usually the same people who whine that graphics arent everything
there are games with 60fps etc, they're just games that aren't so realistic looking (which is fine by me)
If low-poly stuff could be used to a nice effect, games would be very smooth
If they can do 60FPS at 720p why not give people the choice between that or 30FPS at 1080p?
Because they'll likely not be able to achieve 60 fps, and it's not as if you can just change resolution and achieve that framerate. It'd require more work to optimize and ensure both settings are stable.

1080p is not double the resolution of 720p and i don't think doubling the resolution always halves the framerate anyway.
It's funny how the "next generation" can't even play games in full HD yet.
I think you should read up on them before making such an uninformed statement.
Most Xbone games run at a resolution of 1080p. (around 50%)
The vast majority (upwards of 95%) of PS4 games run at 1080p, most of those (~75%) also run at 60fps.
(Statistics via IGNs list of rendering resolutions)

You're right, it's actually a bit more than double the resolution.
720p = 0.9216 megapixels
1080p = 2.0736 megapixels
But yeah, doubling resolution isn't a linear decrease in performance. There's a couple of other factors to it.

Of course the current gen consoles can "handle" it in 1080p at 60fps if they sacrificed the graphical settings.
I'm not sure what makes you think otherwise. Anyways, devs will always consider whether having it in 60fps or having increased graphical fidelity is most important.
A game like this will be perfectly playable in 30fps. Sure, it's not ideal, but it's not an actual problem either.

It will probably be in 1080p at 30fps on the PS4, but it might be lower on the Xbone.
I certainly doubt most PCs can handle it anywhere near that, anyways :v:
I really hope it's gameplay is as fun as the first
Wouldn't surprise me if consoles couldn't handle it, I doubt my PC could handle it either.

A game running in unscaled 1080p on last-gen was quite rare. Mostly it was only 2D or very simple 3D games that ran that resolution. Minecraft is one of the few games that run at 1080p60 as far as I know.
Going by the stuttering in the demo footage, you'd have to have a pretty beast computer to run it at 60 fps max settings
... neither will I with PC.

WipEout HD was the first PSN exclusive title for the PS3, and it looks pretty damn good and runs in 1080p @ 60fps most of the time.
It had a dynamic framebuffer though, if everything was exploding it could momentarily scale all the way down to 960 x 1080 to keep the framerate solid.
Bad game, cancel it now.

Exclusives are usually pretty well optimized, and racing games are usually of the less "heavy" titles.

That's compression which caused the stuttering.

I always found that fact sort of odd. Racing games tend to have large and complex levels and many reflections and stuff going on.

most sport games have relatively fewer asset variety and a clearly defined playable space where anything outside of that can have a
drastically lower quality

and it won't really matter

Minecraft isn't a very complex game graphically speaking
The team decided to clear the air today and admit that the game won't quite be the next-gen looking beast so many people desire.
What.
So why isn't the game running at the superb resolution? It's mainly an engine issue.
Whaaaaaat.
The writer is even alluding to that this might not only be limited to consoles:
(It appears they were talking about the console versions, but they weren't specific.)
Of course they're talking about consoles. How hard is it to write "You see, The Witcher 2 was already a pretty demanding game, and the updated version simply won't run at max settings on console hardware"? Is the writer actually not aware of the console limitations or is he just trying to reassure people that bought consoles that they're in no way inferior?
Also, if the quote starts with "To be honest, we were expecting much worse" and contains the words "but it's actually running", writing "However, the team is working quite well with the next-gen hardware." is a bad fit.
Consoles are great for some people, but this article is a joke.
Idk why people give next-gen consoles so much hate for not pushing out 1080p 60fps. There just starting out, give them time.1-2 years and it will be norm. Theyve been locked in old hardware for a very long time, give them time to breath.
Not surprised. Graphics over performance.

30 fps is pretty unplayable imo, its such an eye sore.
30 fps is pretty unplayable imo, its such an eye sore.
I'd be more inclined to say that 30fps is unplayable because of the latency, not because it looks bad.
30 fps is pretty unplayable imo, its such an eye sore.
Depends on the game, and having a stable framerate is a factor too.

Do you pay attention to Steam Hardware surveys?

30fps games are pretty clearly completely playable, hence why people manage to play them.
