In a release issued Wednesday, the CRTC said it has fined Rob Sugar $4,000 and that it has also issued $10,000 fines to Roofing by Peerless Mason Ltd. and Waterproofing by Peerless Mason Inc. "The telemarketers were given opportunities to come into compliance but failed to change their business practices," the release states. The commission did not give any further detail about Sugar or Peerless Mason. The CRTC's do-not-call list took effect in September 2008. Companies that call persons registered on the list face fines of up to $15,000 per call while individuals can be charged $1,500 per call. Under the rules of the list, telemarketers are identified only if they either refuse to pay the fine or contest the violation. CRTC has said in the past that telemarketers are not named beforehand in order to encourage them to pay the fines rather than contest the charge. The commission has said as many as 700 telemarketing companies are under investigation. All three telemarketers now have 30 days to pay their fines. If they fail to meet the deadline, interest will begin accruing and the CRTC will register the debt with the Federal Court.
SO if you put your name on the Do-not-call list and a telemarketer calls you, the company will be fined $15,000 CAN per call. But that's nothing compared to the fines you get if you pirate music.... What they did seems perfectly fine to me.
Fineally. I hate telemarketers.
I still get calls from asshole telemarketers and I am registered on the DNC list

Freaking awesome. I'm so sick of having to pick up the phone every hour.
Then who was phone
You guys realize this has been around for awhile, right? I've been on the Do-not-call list for several years; once in a blue moon I'll get a call, and I'll phone it in, and that's the end of it.
I still think this takes care of them a little better.
I still think this takes care of them a little better.
Thank you... I need to try that someday.
But I don't need 15,000 cans
I've had so many rude awakenings from them calling my damn cell phone. Once I got 3 calls in a row pretty much. They're not even humans calling, just some automated machine. All for what? A credit card scam. Why aren't these guys fined more than your average pirate.
I still get calls from asshole telemarketers and I am registered on the DNC list
Report them for trolling.
I remember hearing that it's illegal to for telemarketers to call cell phones in the US, regardless of weather or not you're on the DNC list. For those who still get those calls, it would be possible to press charges against the company for doing so.
Rick Rolling annoys callers that try to spam you. So does claiming you are a food place.
Downloading music in Canada is legal
Downloading music in Canada is legal
Congratulations.
Congratulations.
Was it worth?
Was it worth?
Why's it matter to you? Music downloading has nothing to do with the DNC.
Why's it matter to you? Music downloading has nothing to do with the DNC.
I wish people would get references sometimes.
I'm surprised how many people didn't know about the list until now.
Bullshit "charities" bypass it here Stateside.
I wish people would get references sometimes.
It was done wrong anyway but still good thing this one was unrecognized.
How do you actually get your number on the DNC list in the UK?
How do you actually get your number on the DNC list in the UK?
Well you ring up a certain place and then you give them your number, then they hand it over to the people that violate the DNC list and they call you.
