The changing shape of the Toblerone chocolate bar has been added to the SNP’s growing list of grievances over the “devastating” effects of Brexit. The Nationalist MSP Colin Beattie has tabled a motion at Holyrood lamenting the new design of the bar, which has seen larger gaps introduced between the chocolate peaks. The controversial move by the makers of the popular treat is, according to politician, no less than “emblematic of the devastating consequences that Brexit could bring”. The bizarre motion, entitled Decrease in the Weight of the Toblerone Bar, asks that the Scottish Parliament “notes with concern Mondelez International's recent decision to widen the gaps between the segments of the iconic Swiss chocolate bar, Toblerone, in the UK; understands that this was made in order to allay rising costs for numerous ingredients; believes that this is emblematic of the devastating consequences that Brexit could bring”. It goes on to suggest Holyrood offers its condolences to those mourning the move and calls on the UK Government to “take speedy action to rectify the change” while also wishing the company “the best possible success with the lighter bar”.
Torygraph Where's smurfy when we need him.
The larger gaps are for putting the extra sovereignty inbetween
Is it only Toblerones in the UK that are changing?
They did is because the ingredients are becoming more expensive. The ingredients do not come from the UK. They simply made the change in the UK first to gauge the reaction, yet be protected in the eyes of their primary markets because of brexit.
Country doesn't bat an eye when our government sells off like, every public service ever, but change a bar of chocolate and everyone loses their shit; it'd be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic
Can anyone explain why Toblerone got changed for Britain? I don't get it

Whatever, I don't get sick. Who needs public transport when you have a big ol car? What's that? It's not insured anymore? Oh well, I'm a good driver anyways. They fucking touched my GODDAMN TOBLERONE NOW YOU WENT AND DID IT STOP EVERYTHING NOW REMEMBER REMEMBER THE 6TH OF NOVEMBER REVIVE FAWKES NOOOWWWWWWWWWW
Can anyone explain why Toblerone got changed for Britain? I don't get it
It got smaller for same price. Could stay same for bigger price, effect is same. The message is "fuck you for making bad choices (brexit) now suffer"

I'm not gonna say this has nothing to do with Brexit because it might, but this has been happening with all our snacky foods for years. Yorkie bars went from 6 squares to 5 over night many eons ago, still payed the fucking same though, cheeky cunts.
Welcome to what us Americans have been dealing with year after year after year. Every snack and candy has got smaller and smaller. A fucking fun sized Snicker bar from 15 years ago looks like a regular bar compared to today's fun sized one. Pringles are even fucking smaller now. Everything is getting smaller yet staying the same price or getting more expensive. It pisses me off. This is why we feel like giants as an adult when we look at something we haven't seen since we were a child, it's because the fuckers shrunk it
Yo its true Chocolate is on the verge of becoming a precious commodity. Real chocolate that is. Cacao plants. Due to the limited zones they can grow in, climate change and the lack of diversity to try find a new seed, cacao plants will br extremely expensive to cultivate. Really, if it wasnt perishable , I would buy the fuck of chocolate. Wait...there must be future trades on cocoa somewhere....if 2 guys almost owned all the onions of chicago with futures....then there must be for cocoa. Brb.

Usually.
Yeah, you can notice this in many products. Polos probably got invented when someone decided to drill a hole into a mint, then they just worked out they can make the rings thinner until you're buying air encased in mint. Always hated aerated chocolate (aeros) because half the chocolate is missing. Terry's chocolate orange has been getting tinier each year with them removing segments. They sometimes even change this for things you can't eat like washing powder, oil, paint and shoe polish. Going to the supermarket and walking past all these dated products is telling that it's time to start moving onto buying different products and to watch out what you buy. I would be totally fine if they just increased the price because then the product still remains at a useful amount, if just a little more pricy to obtain. It's like the modern version of figuring out how much a kilo of potatoes are except now we need laws in place to figure out exactly how much space between toblerones there must be before it becomes a toblergone.
Terry's chocolate orange has been getting tinier each year with them removing segments.
Well they might be shrinking them but changing the amount of segments doesn't mean they're getting smaller, the sphere stays the same shape and the mass doesn't change regardless of how you cut it

Or, you know, that's at least the story I was told. There's about ten different variants going around, and with me being rabid anti-Brexitter, I like my narrative better. And that's all that matters.
They've been doing this to chocolate for years in the UK, suddenly toblerone now gets the treatment and it's blamed on brexit.
Coco prices around the world are increasing dramatically, production is slowing and cannot compete with new markets and bigger populations. It's estimated the price of it will increase by 30% in 2020.

Next time your toilet paper comes a few rolls shorter and you're busy taking a shit I hope you remember the Brexit wasn't the punishment but the corporations being sneaky and removing a few sheets hoping you didn't notice.

And next time you read a post, be sure to read the terribly self-aware second part of it that pretty clearly states I just found news that fitted my world-views and decided to perpetuate that narrative instead of do a critical analysis of chocolate-bar-sizes and global warming's effect on tropical agriculture.
That's just ridiculous, it's only a chocolate bars, who cares you are going to eat it anyway.
They did is because the ingredients are becoming more expensive
If that's true then wouldn't it be more practical to shrink the bar and save on packaging? like most companys have been doing for the last 30 years in the UK?
