I recently was given 2 Kenwood KSH-71 speakers, a center speaker and a receiver. I hooked up the speakers to the receiver and listened to music for about 2 hours. Shortly after the 2 hour mark the music stops and the speakers let off some concerning noises and the room is filled with the smell of burning plastic. I shut off the receiver and let it sit. After about 30 minutes I turned it on, i was promptly greeted with a loud pop from the receiver and more burning smells.
My question is; should I look at my set up again and make sure all the cables are where they should be? Or should I start looking for a new receiver?
bump?
Sounds like you need a new one, if you have a receipt i'd try and get a refund.
You could've short circuited it or put too much of a load on it, you might want to check that you're doing everything correctly.
Thanks for the help. I'll double check all my stuff. It is older hardware which I was given for free so no receipt.
You probably blew out the amp in the receiver from overloading it with speakers way beyond it was designed to take. Depending on the damage, you could probably get it repaired if it's economical.
