• Headphones being detected as speakers
    6 replies, posted
I have Realtek installed, but for some reason whenever I plug in my headphones, they are recognized as speakers. I have checked headphones on the little box that pops up, yet they are still detected as speakers. I have already reinstalled my drivers, tried plugging them in to all of the jacks in the back of my computer, tried some windows audio troubleshooting, and looked around for the answer to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated!
So what exactly is the problem here?
Does this cause any sound problems? I'm pretty sure there is no way for windows to know if you're using headphones or speakers. That's why every application that has directional sound also has settings for Headphones or Speakers. Whenever you play a game just make sure the audio settings are at "Headphones".
What I think he means, is that his card is detecting headphones as regular speakers, and Realtek cards have an option for automatically muting speakers when you plug headphones in, which in this case obviously wouldn't work. Uhh, I don't use Realtek anymore because I've had massive problems with their cards, but there should be an advanced settings button somewhere, and you should be able to force the front panel output to work as headphone output all the time.
Oh right, and there's actually two versions of RealTek drivers you can be using. The generic drivers supplied by their website, and the actual drivers that came with your motherboard. You should attempt using either to see if you get better results.
How do I use the one that came with my motherboard?
