A four-year-old girl and her father had a ‘miraculous’ escape today after suffering only minor injuries when their home was blown up by a gas explosion.

Hope someone saves that jar of pickles.
Is it wrong of me that I really want to see this happen? It would look so damn cool in super slow motion.
I'm kind of glad my flat is entirely electric...

Can't help but think of this:

That was not even close to slow motion, and it cut out half the explosion.

It also was potato quality
That actually happened to my grandfather's house a few years ago. His house was completely destroyed, and he lost pretty much everything in it. Pretty crazy shit, huh? Thankfully he managed to get out in time.

How did it happen? it's common in the UK because of our central heating
We have natural gas heat in the states and I've never heard of people's houses exploding when it goes wrong.

Our house was renovated and our gas pipe was half too small for the gas that flows through, which was why we could often smell gas, meaning there was a leak, a pipe fracture or not installed properly can often lead to explosions.
It often doesn't bode well for semi-detached or terraced housing where things are connected to other things.

Do you guys not believe in safeties or what?

That's some shoddy-ass gas-work, how on earth do they get away with that?

It was quite frequent but it's been clamped down on because of the GasSafe register, where you cannot work on anything gas related, even if it's your own property and you have to call out an registered engineer to carry out the work for you.
Unless you yourself are a GasSafe registered engineer then go for it.

I'd imagine it comes down to a lot of houses being very old here - you'll pretty much see a 100 year old building walking out of the door in most places, it's totally unremarkable - so many might have been retrofitted poorly ages ago and not maintained. New laws and regs mean that stuff done now is safe, providing you've not had a cowboy illegally working on your gas.

This was several years ago, and I honestly don't remember most of the details, so I probably have a lot of this wrong, but my grandfather lived in a somewhat old house in North Carolina with a gas heating system. One morning he woke up early because he smelled gas or something, so he got his wife up and got them both out of the house. Apparently the explosion and resulting fire happened just as they got outside. The whole place burned to the ground but everyone (including the dog!) got out fine.

I think they do.

That looks like a Family Guy Cleveland bathtub scene.

You reminded me of one from a while back. Not quite on that scale, though.

And this is why you use electric stoves. They dont make your house explode.

I'd have to guess it is a Nokia but they don't make fridges do they?
