The European Union has agreed to launch negotiations with Cuba aimed at restoring full bilateral relations with the Communist-run island.
The talks, which could begin as soon as next month, will try to increase trade and investment, and include a dialogue on human rights, officials said.
Since 1996, the EU has restricted its ties with Cuba to encourage multi-party democracy and progress on human rights.
important2note: EU's relations are separate from the relations of its member states. Most EU member states already have diplomatic relations with Cuba, but the EU itself does not
doesn't really matter though, the EU's impact on cuba isn't THAT big the U.S. lifting sanctions on cuba would be the real game changer

The EU is Cuba's biggest foreign investor, so EU companies are going to the ones raking in the cash as Cuba's economy opens up to foreign investment
I guess america hates money
Fuck no that means Europe will get all the cheap classic American cars before America does. Fuck off europe :(

cuban american hate cuba, and they are a large segment of several swing states, personally i believe we should lift sanctions but politicians in those states don't want to look soft on cuba so they can get the votes. its purely political and since its not really a big issue outside of the few southern states that are involved, its never going to be fixed until the international community acts up
