If turn-based tactics and feudal fantasy had a lovechild, and that offspring founded a mighty century-spanning dynasty, it would be MASSIVE CHALICE.
With your help, MASSIVE CHALICE will become a reality—forged by Double Fine with our 3D in-house Buddha Engine and unleashed on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

We're inspired by classic tactical strategy games like X-COM, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, as well as Game of Thrones’ array of noble families. With these influences in mind we’re creating an epic, replayable turn-based tactics game where you train generations of heroes to repel a demonic invasion.
And with Kickstarter, we can do it. We have a great concept and team ready to go, and we want to work closely with our community to control the future of MASSIVE CHALICE free from outside interference.
Nice to see they're having such luck with this so far, and that kickstarter is still proving to be so successful. Considering this was launched just a little over an hour ago I think it's safe to say they're gonna hit the goal.
Shouldn't they wait for Doublefine Adventure (whatever the finalized name ended up being) to be released? :v:

"the Broken Age team only represents a third of our multi-game studio."
they have the resources so why wait?
I backed that shit so hard I broke my touchpad.

Also, the video pretty much sold me.
Welp they got 20$ at least from me
but tim schafer please i love my money
Video was pretty awesome, looking forward to seeing this.
Also love the Arrested Development joke in the video. :v:

yeah well he loves it more than you do so cough it up
That promo was embarrassingly entertaining. I've had a thing for Double Fine since Psychonauts, and discovering turn-based strategy while playing XCOM: UFO Defense after picking it up on a Steam sale was like meeting an old friend I never knew I had.
I'll definitely consider backing this.
sounds neat as h*ck
I know they talk about how they have multiple teams, but the timing of this is sketchy as hell considering Tim Schafer was talking about how they are projected to go over budget on Broken Age and the subsequent Double Fine Humble Bundle.
I love Tim Schafer, I love his games, and I love what he does for the industry, but the man goes so heavily over-budget on every game he and his team makes that I would worry about them not having a publisher to back them up.
Brad Muir the new Tim Schafer?
Another great game that is coming that I will need to play.
:(
I dunno. Have any games funded by Kickstarter gotten released yet? Feels like there's been hundereds of game projects at this point but I haven't heard of any reviews or whatnot. I donated to Godus and they're just now half a year later getting ready to release a beta. I think I need to be more certain of Kickstarter as a successful platform for churning out good games before I shed out more money.

Remember this from the Broken Age kickstarter?

FTL and Chivalry were kickstarted, I believe.

Well, there's FTL... and FPSRussia: The Game :v:
I've still never backed anything on kickstarter but this really tempts me. It's a shame there's nothing that could make me more certain. Maybe I'll drink on it and make the right choice.
Wow all the $5000 and $10000 rewards have been taken, that's impressive.

Actually the updates have mentioned more sources of funding and from the sounds of it they have reigned it in alot. This has also been forshadowed for a while now. If you watch the documentaries you can see they were prepping for another game. This is most likely that game.
I would love to donate but I ain't got any money :(
I'd much rather see some actual gameplay instead of a silly little video with no relevance.

I think it's incredible that a famous name, a couple pieces of concept art, and a completely irrelevant video about the dev team can raise so much money so quickly. And then people get mad at Anita Sarkeesian asking for $6k :v:

I don't think anyone got mad at her for asking for 6k, but for getting a 160k and only doing what she does.
But that's derailing this.
Well I guess having a history of making really loved games for a lot of fans can do a lot for a person. He's not famous because he's famous. He's delivered great products enough times.

Call me old fashioned but I like to wait until something leaves the conceptual stages before throwing money at it. I guess I'm just a bad capitalist though.

I've no beef with Tim Schafer and he makes pretty good games. I thought the Star Citizen kickstarter was insane as well. A few million made off of concept art, promises, and the possibility that 2 years from now you might be flying a cool looking ship.
That's nice...now, how bout an remake of grim fandango? :v:

but old fashioned business often involves putting your money into things that are well documented and laid out as best as possible at the time and doing a risk assessment.
This is literally no different.
It looks ok but then again I would shed a tear of joy if it were psychonauts 2
Well, most Kickstarters were done very recently, and good game development takes a year or two, so...
A bit more than halfway through funding within 24 hours. Wow.
am I the only person who really hates everything double fine does? I feel like they're a combination of pretentious indie developers and disney.
I wish my pay cheque could come sooner. This looks interesting.
