Yeah but at 40 GB I still don't feel like downloading it.
yeah I'm not going to download a 40 gb game just so I can't play it after 2 days. give me a demo instead
Homefront: The Revolution honestly isn't that bad of a game. It has some great concepts and ideas and some interesting aspects but it's bogged down by a lack of polish in many areas. There are tons of glitches that occur and questionable AI at times. Certain expectations in an FPS game where there's a lot of emphasis of story on your character leave for some awkwardly silent moments when main characters are talking to you and asking you questions but you don't ever acknowledge them in any way (the "silent protagonist" cliché of yonder). You're a literal, mindless drone.
Multiplayer COOP is actually pretty fun and can be pretty challenging but they're short mini-scenarios that can be completed, depending on difficulty, within 10-15 minutes. Not too bad but considering there are only six missions to choose from, you can easily do all within an hour and feel no incentive to go back except to unlock more cosmetic items and boosts/weapon upgrades. It has a CoD-lite feel to it in terms of the progression system. Kinda grindy though.
Honestly, being able to get it for free is a decent deal. It allows you literally play the entire game without the guilt of feeling like you wasted your money if you didn't like it. I like the game, but I fear the mediocre to average reviews will cause the game to lose development and fade into obscurity.
I never played the first (doesn't start up on Steam for some reason for me) but this one wasn't half bad in my opinion.
This is an obvious sign that the game didn't sell well.

The first one was actually loads of fun. It was kind of a middleground between what Battlefield is now, and what CoD was.

The "Silent protagonist" is the most annoying, and badly executed trope of this game.
What the fuck dude, they freakin asked you who you are, why don't you fucking answers? Oh but noo! You had to stay silent, while you could easily answers and not get hit by the way.
wouldn't even try to for free tbh

I kinda think they were trying to explain that with the doctor guy saying you had a concussion or some shit. Basically that the two dumbasses at the subway entrance bashed your speech center in. Yeah, it's really stupid and if he had just gone, "I was with Walker and he got captured!" right at the beginning, he'd have saved himself a very literal headache.

By the way, from what I've played so far, I hate the doctor guy. I think he's supposed to be the voice of morality and reason, but instead he just comes across as an ignorant, placating dick.

That guy?

It's a shame I can't get it to actually start up. Because at the time it looked very much like the middle ground as you said. This one takes huge inspiration from FC3 and FC4. That gives you a bit of an idea of what the open world is like, in a sense.
I'll be honest, im only really playing this because the devs are former Free Radical of TimeSplitters fame. If i haven't known that i would have shoved it ages ago. But there's that Timesplitters 2 easter egg and i just got to see it since i adore both 2 and 3 so much. Thanks Lucas Arts for completey fucking up any chance of a proper Battlefront and more importantly, fucking up the development of Timesplitters 4, bunch of cunts.
Gameplay wise for Homefront and rant over, i will be forever salty about it, its just Average. It's basically taking cues from the later Far Cry games that can be a drag to play. Thats not to say its not without some good ideas and a rather impressive art direction. And it looks fucking gorgeous in full settings, running off a fresh 1060. It's gameplay simply isnt anything to write home about you've played it before no doubt. It is better than Homefront 1 though.
But open world stuff, yuck.
This is an obvious sign that the game didn't sell well.
yes and no. rocket league has free weekends every now and then, and that definitely sold like hot pants.
The game is really such a mixed bag. Like, I honestly really love the weapons system. Being able to swap what a weapon does on the fly is so great. I basically have nine weapons available at any moment I can swap between. So I end up taking the crossbow and battle rifle a lot because I get semi-automatic high damage, bolt-action max damage, explosive damage, silent long range high damage, short range max damage, and aoe fire damage. Like, there is a lot of versatility in them just by swapping them around. I'd love to see this aspect in other games.
The story is forgettable and that is what I'm doing really, forgetting it. I still hate the doctor guy.
The world is actually not so bad, listening to the people and the announcements and the radio broadcasts, its actually somewhat immersive, and the world has a few nice little details as well, and its not ugly.
The combat is really simple however, and the quests are frankly rather boring. Its very bog standard Far Cry stuff. Climb this thing and activate it. Clear out this base and then get a shot from the distance before your guys suddenly have moved in. Blow up the fuel stuff and watch the distance shot again. And the AI is just braindead.
The coop is pretty fun, if a little bullshit. Like, just starting out it is completely terrible and making any progress is going to be difficult. But once you've got a few weapons, especially the limpet mine launcher, you can really start kicking ass and it actually feels kinda good getting in to fights and holding out in a group. And the AI feels a little less braindead for some reason.

it was fun in a mindless sort of way, sort of like bulletstorm. I wouldn't call it good, but fun is no stretch. I will say it's among the most linear games I've ever played and the sound design was downright miserable
I played it for a hour and a half. not bad, movement is glitchy sometimes, I was on a set of stairs with a flat part in the middle, I couldn't go down from that part, I had to go up.

He might be talking about the multiplayer. I thought the SP was kinda shit but the MP was actually a lot of fun.
I played it for a while. It was alright, very paint by numbers open world game. The shotgun is great though, I had the most fun just clearing outposts using the shotgun and molotovs.
The real disappointment to me is that aside from taking strongholds the game doesn't do anything with the revolutionary concept in the gameplay. You never have to ambush patrols, you've got a ton of ammo, you can't really blend in with the civilians.
So, i found the Arcade Cabinet. The pain in the backside is that its so close to the end of the game.
May i just say that it feels weird as fuck to play Timesplitters 2 with mouse and keyboard and i would seriously want a proper port of 2 and my favourite of the bunch, Future Perfect. Jesus christ is hard actually hard though, going through Serbia and Chicago almost completely blind for the first time in years is a blast, even if i keep getting fucked to all sorts of nonsense. I'm having more fun on this than the actual game it came in. Screw Homefront, give me this!
Like i said, wouldn't give the game a second glance without this easter egg.
This is an obvious sign that the game didn't sell well.
Well, yeah. Zero advertising, high price, bad franchise reputation, game switched developers midway through, etc. Did anyone think it was going to sell well?
I'll definitely buy a few copies if it drops to a low price, but looking at the price of Homefront 1, I'm not seeing that happen.

That's also an indie game that was given away for free on one of its platforms and was bundled with Steam hardware. Their goal seems to be to get the game into as many people's hands as possible, not making as much money as possible.
He might be talking about the multiplayer. I thought the SP was kinda shit but the MP was actually a lot of fun.
Yeah the singleplayer wasn't all that great, but the MP had a lot of things going for it that were actually surprisingly good.
