Well I bought a new PC and want to transfer most of my files over (games, music, applications) etc. Is there any free software out there like PCMover that does the process for you quickly and painlessly? I haven't been able to find any. Thanks guys.
Why not just plug the hard drives into the same computer and copy + paste?
This may be what you're looking for. http://www.xxclone.com/index.htm [editline]4th September 2012[/editline]
Why not just plug the hard drives into the same computer and copy + paste?
Agreed, but he may have a good reason for not doing this.
Thanks DeadCow that seems like a good solution. Reason I didn't copy and paste it, is because I hear alot of people saying it can cause problems (such as copying Steam over with all games in tact etc).
You might just have to reinstall a load of programs, but you could still transfer over the "bulk material," like game directories and the Steamapps folders. Probably common sense actually.. You thinking move as in like usb transfer cable? Kinda a hassle, but it works, or LAN.. heck, not sure exactly how you mean (like, you don't have cords er something). I'm just going to use a useful NAT box I have and transfer things over ethernet
Windows Easy Transfer is a pretty good and overlooked tool. I used it for copying files from my PC to my Laptop. Though I believe it is only available in Windows Vista and 7.
