Obama also authorized the Treasury Department to impose sanctions on individuals and companies operating in the region. The measures come after the European Union banned investment in Crimea on Thursday.

Obama has issued an executive order that “prohibits the export of goods, technology, or services to Crimea and prohibits the import of goods, technology, or services from Crimea, as well as new investments in Crimea,” according to the statement.

The new Cuba
If a stream of tourism follows i am more then ok with that.
Isn't Crimea already part of Russia thats under sanctions?
Isn't Crimea already part of Russia thats under sanctions?
Only Russia and a small number of underdeveloped countries recognize Crimea as part of Russia.
Isn't Crimea already part of Russia thats under sanctions?
No because Crimea isn't Russian. It's Ukranian.
If a stream of tourism follows i am more then ok with that.
I don't think Crimea is on many peoples holiday destination lists
I don't think Crimea is on many peoples holiday destination lists
I think Crimea was a fairly good tourism spot before the revolution. I saw it mentioned in a VICE documentary, at least.
If a stream of tourism follows i am more then ok with that.
Move Crimea to the Caribbean and sure
Los Crimea son Ukraina
No because Crimea isn't Russian. It's Ukranian.
Look Russia stole the land and it belongs to the Ukrainians but the Russians own it now, there's no way to deny this.
I think Crimea was a fairly good tourism spot before the revolution. I saw it mentioned in a VICE documentary, at least.
Yeah I remember reading somewhere else that the tourism industry went belly up when the little green men started appearing everywhere. Even though it's relatively peaceful now, potential visitors would likely consider it a volatile region and go somewhere safer.
Good to see that ruskies are taking good care of my hometown :v:
I think Crimea was a fairly good tourism spot before the revolution. I saw it mentioned in a VICE documentary, at least.
My relatives who live in Kiev would be there almost every summer, but not anymore.
Look Russia stole the land and it belongs to the Ukrainians but the Russians own it now, there's no way to deny this.
They may occupy it, but they don't own it.
I don't think Crimea is on many peoples holiday destination lists
Ever heard of war tourism? As crazy as it sounds there are plenty of people doing that.
Ever heard of war tourism? As crazy as it sounds there are plenty of people doing that.
Crimea hardly qualify for war tourism, too safe and peaceful, but there is a nice ongoing tour in East Ukraine right now. Just make sure you pack up your camo tan and accesories. [editline]20th December 2014[/editline]
They may occupy it, but they don't own it.
In 20 years people be like "Crimea was Ukranian? Whoa Dude". Soo yeah, like it or not, we own it unless you have anyone ready to attack pennisulia and take it by force.
What's your opinion on all this ukranian annexation business karimatrix? You seem like you know quite a bit on the matters and i just feel like you'd have a really interesting opinion.
In 20 years people be like "Crimea was Ukranian? Whoa Dude". Soo yeah, like it or not, we own it unless you have anyone ready to attack pennisulia and take it by force.
It's not like your country took the former Prussian capital city, renamed it after a Bolshevik, and systematically murdered or forced deportation of germans to East and West Germany. Oh wait, that did happen. Of course it was under the soviet union, but lets not pussy foot about this either, Russia controlled the Soviet Union as the dominant Soviet republic. It's whim was forced upon the rest of the republics, in an effort of "Russification", to bring the other less "brotherly" republics, like the baltic states, under Russian control and subservience, which didn't work and I commend the efforts of all the former soviet republics at keeping their individual identities. You think just because time passes that the shitty things people do disappear? If anything all it does is lend credence to discussion, about not following the same destructive footsteps of our ancestors. For some reason, it seems this bit of knowledge is lost to you. I literally do wonder why that is.
No because Crimea isn't Russian. It's Ukranian.
Crimea is de facto part of Russia even if you don't agree with it.
Crimea is Russia now. They aren't gonna just hand it back to Ukraine unless some other country is willing to fight for it. Hint: There are none.
Ukraine could just buy Crimea back with how bad the ruble is doing right now.
Crimea is de facto part of Russia even if you don't agree with it.
Well we don't agree because it isn't. Had it actually had legitimate elections supervised by outside, reputable sources instead of having Russia send in armed soldiers to watch over the "referendum", no one would be angry, in fact if Russia didn't just take Crimea in the way it did, I'm sure everyone in the world would have found it inspiring.
De facto means the reality of the situation and not your feels.
No shit, doesn't mean people won't have their opinions. Actually what you said was pretty dumb. So if I came and took something from you, with force, by de facto I now own it right? Wrong, because this is not how things work, even on a global/political/economic level. When it comes down to it Ukraine has every right to be angry because it was their land and they weren't given a choice with it. It was just taken.
So if I came and took something from you, with force, by de facto I now own it right?
De-facto - yes, you own it. Unless he takes it back, or someone forces you to give it back.
Crimea was prime holiday destination for many Soviets during old days. It is very nice there in summer, I remember reading long article about it in National Geographic few years back.
De-facto - yes, you own it. Unless he takes it back, or someone forces you to give it back.
Again this is not how things work. If this is how shit worked thieves would be getting off scott free because DE FACTO I HAD POSSESSION OF IT IT'S MINE. If I tried to do this I'd get my ass beaten by the person I had stolen from AND go to jail. Yet when it comes to countries stealing things such as land, which does have a monetary value, there is a double standard?
Only Russia and a small number of underdeveloped countries recognize Crimea as part of Russia.
Why does no one ever ask Crimean people what they think tho?
Why does no one ever ask Crimean people what they think tho?
Well if you're a Ukrainian or Tatar living in Crimea, you might not be happy with the new arrangement.
Ukraine could just buy Crimea back with how bad the ruble is doing right now.
Ukraine could buy half of Russia + Crimea at this rate.
Why does no one ever ask Crimean people what they think tho?
Well because now we might see Russian propaganda saying lies about what they want, honestly. Whereas I'll take this electoral result from Crimea's 2010 parliamentary elections as a conclusion of the Crimean thought of the matter. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_parliamentary_election,_2010#Results It just confuses me that if Crimea wanted to join Russia, why did the Russian Unity party only get 3% of the vote? Party of Regions got damn near 50% of the vote. Even the Communists got 5%.
